Lao Country Club. 6737 from blue tees. I shot an ok 87 spoilt by one triple bogie.I hope the pictures can give a good idea how fabulous this course is. My trusty Samsung camera decided to pack it in after about 15 holes so a few shots didn't turn out. I had to purchase a new camera for the rest of the trip, i wasn't going to be in Laos for 5 days without one!this is the 2nd shot on the double dogleg par 5 #2 around the dead tree, fabulous hole#7 par 4 430yds looking back at the clubhouse. I have been in some nice ones but none come close to the locker room here.I should have taken pics inside!1st tee short 310 yd par 4 to lull youthe tee shot on the double dog leg par 5#5 par 5 519yds. the par 5's are short but testy#8 par 3 182 yds. One of the prettiest par 3's I've see. Sculpted bunkers. trees right, very well laid out.#10 par 4 385yds.#13 par 3 184 ydsApproach to par 5 #5. the fairway is split with bunkers down the middle.Interesting feature just a nice feature

Last round of my trip at SEA Games course I played course 'A' 3331 yds from white and course "C" 3367 from white. Best round of the trip shooting 84 with 9 pars. The course condition should be apparent from the pictures, very nice. Hard to get good photos due to the course being very flat. As you can see each hole is narrow with thick brush down the sides. Keep it in the fairway! #15 par4 360#1 par 4 412 yds#2 par 5 579yds#3 par 4 373yds#6 par 4 396yds#7 par 3 135 yds#9 par 4 383 yds. the most interesting hole. The green is to the right of the clubhouse. 1st shot to the right of the group ahead, carry both ponds.#10 par 5 536 yds. #12 par 3 162 yds. I caught up to the group ahead, a 6 ball, and another guy joined them on this hole making them a 7. they asked me to join and play through making us an 8 ball!! I hit thin hitting the tall weeds over the water. Not wanting to waste time I dropped then pitched in for an unlikely par. The gallery liked it.#14 par 4 394 yds.your author#15 par 4 360yds#16 par3 150yds#17 par4 369 yds. Feeling brave? I got a little right luckily hit the cart path and ended up with 100 yds. Gotta be lucky to be lucky.#18 par 5 537 yds. Final shot of the day.nice feature

Played Lao CC Thursday. Course in great shape. 300,000 kip all-in walking. 98 degrees with no breeze...hot, hot, hot. Make sure you don't get caddy 155. Think she must have been beaten lifeless in a re-education camp. Totally useless. Wifes caddy seemed ok. Best greens I've played in the past month. Playing SEA Games course today.

Played SEA Games course last Saturday. Course in good shape with fun layout. Clubhouse and locker room basic. Crusty towels. No bag drop. System is to park in car park and wait for a caddie to find you. We had to go get them. Wife's caddie was fair. Mine was worthless. Other caddie was actually trying to help her and stay motivated. Eventually just stopped using her. I've had bad playing partners ruin a round, but an annoying caddie? Totally lame. But did I mention the course was fun?

Lao CC was overall better experience. Just remember its walking only, so avoid 40 degree afternoons.

I went up to the new Lao Inter golf course, you drive out Laung Prabang road past the airport about 6 kms as soon as you pass the right turn that takes you towards the university ( its the main road and has signs for various places on the raod and a police box) no more than 500 meters left turn paved road and just stay on this road for a I guess 6 kms (we got lost and backtracked a couple times) past Ban Champa another 1 km or so right turn theres a sign for Lao Inter golf course and follow it back, Its not officially open yet and the course shows it the grass is thin with soft sandy dirt but its nice much like Dansavanh every hole has the bush on both sides narrow fairways and many bunkers greens are nice interductory price is 200000 kip $25 including caddy, it has a 680 yard par 6 and 1 green with a sand trap in the middle of it, we played on a monday mornng early and literally were the only 2 people to play all day!!!! we will play again this week and get a better feel for the place, it is out in the boonys thou difficult to explain where you want to go it would be easier to tell a driver that you want to go to Tadmoon waterfalls its less than 500 metrs from there, if you have a hobo map the turn is right above the note showing red roofs police box, that 3 hole course is on a lao military base, callao

Price is still the same 200000 and they are offering a yearly membership for 8 Million ($1000) seems reasonable to me. I spoke to the manageress, she assured me with yearly membership you can play anytime and just pay caddy fees.

I understand there is a new golf course in Luang Prabang too, but its 3000 baht plus to play there I don't have a link, maybe someone here else does

I am planning to play there in the next few weeks after New Year. They were doing some major work on the road to the course and I suspect there are big plans for that area. There were a few Koreans having a look around at the same time I was there and a few government cars in the carpark. Let's hope they keep the prices reasonable.

Went to Vientiane over Songkran and played SEA Games and Laos Country Club. Both very enjoyable and well worth a visit.

Preferred SEA although the greens were a little patchy. Also strangely no used golf balls for sale!? Just managed to get round - only 1 left.

I got round to playing Lao Inter last Friday, really enjoyed the course. We got there at 6 a.m to find the place empty, told by the cleaners there will be someone along at 7. By 7:30 a few caddies turned up and quickly called the manager. By 7:45 we had managed to rent a couple of sets of clubs (50,000 kip each set) and tee off. We only played 9 holes as it was way too hot to play 18 (hence the 6 a.m start)

It's quite an open course with not too many hazards. This will be a nice course when it is more established and I think the rainy season will make the ground better. The caddies weren't bad.

We were the only players there. We will be back next week.

Also played at KM6 onTuesday and really enjoyed it. Much better than I was expecting, nice layout but it was very busy. The caddies were terrible and turned their noses up at the 50,000 kip tip!!

Lao Country Club is a peach of a track.. $40 US when I was up there 6 months back. Curiously the whole course is shut each Monday. Apparently it is a 'maintenance day'. The course is Korean owned. The SEA course (27holes?) is tight, course is ok, but still in its infancy. The hiso Laos love there golf and the owner of one of the banks up there has recently got the ball rolling on building another course near the city. Luang Prabang also had a reasonable looking golf course. Only got to look at a couple of holes though. Was green and had definition between the greens, fairways and rough and had some undulations on the fairways so hopefully has some reasonable groundwork throughout the course.

the newest golf course in VTE is the vietnamese course (I forget the name) if you look at google earth and find Lao CC (km 14 youth gardens) and pan to the right you'll see it about a km or 2 towards the friendship bridge new road to the left (450 rd?) haven't played yet, we like playing at Inter Lao golf course north of town, 200000 all in, but hard to get to if you don't have wheels, Lao CC is great, SEA games course is nice but since my leg has been bugging me I wanted a cart only to find out ALL the carts are reserved a week in advance, hence not available althou there were about 20 unused carts there so they pissed me off, Dansavanh is nice in the wet season too

I'm looking forward to playing Inter this trip and take a look at the new course, Long Vien is the name I've come across. What is the road like out to Inter? I plan to rent a motocy and travel with my bag same as I do around Chiang Mai.

the road to Inter is in ongoing upgrade, but the majority of it is much better than before, I'd go the Luang Prabang road way, the Kaowleio Ban Mai way is still pretty messed up but eventually that will be new road all the way back to town too, I heard theres a new Tesco Lotus being built off that road by the fishponds, we played up there again in March

I played Lao Country Club and can vouch for the above comments. Great course, nice greens and good bunker placement. It's got some really good holes from the back tees. Met up with a Lao pro and his American caddie and had 2 great days of golf. Went to play Long Vien Monday and it was closed. Don't know if this a regular thing for course maintenance. Maybe someone here knows?

Looking at Google map, the Ban Mai route follows the river? The more obvious way looks to pass fish ponds and pass through Nongteng?

yes they have been building a new road from Luang Prabang rd out to tadmoon waterfalls and Inter golf course, so that way is much better on a bike, you have to go past Ban Champa (theres a sign in English) about a km or 2. if you see tadmoon waterfall park you've gone about 1/2 km too far, I blew a tire on Ban Mai rd last time on a bike, washboard ruts everywhere till they redo that section, theres a sign for Inter at intersection LP rd

my directions to Inter Lao golf course is a little bit messed up, the left turn off Luang prabang rd is 500 meters past the right turn to the northern bus station not the road to the university which is a couple kms further

Laos update.... Spent 6 days in VT and played Km.6, Inter, Long Vien and Laos GCC. Impressions- Km6, overpriced at 220,000 (maybe a weekend rate?) but ok and some challenging holes. Nice clubhouse with awesome Buddha sculptures!. Inter was an adventure getting to. The road is still very much under construction and one lane only for a km or 2. No cars on that stretch and there was a detour throught the red mud jungle. The guys let me pass on the motorbike. Fairly remote location and the course is rough. Some interesting holes, one with a bunker in the middle of the green!, and with some tlc it could be quite nice. Place was deserted and well priced at 150,000 weekdays. Long Vien, now 18 holes open. Not sure if I can adequately convey how impressed I was!! First of all there was a 30% discount on Tuesday so it was 220,000 all in, or about $30, the best golf value I've ever played anytime anywhere. From the 'Vegas Style' fountains to the palatial pro shop/reception, what an awesome set up, very high class locker room with space age bum guns in the toilets (gotta see to believe). You don't have to open a door as they have a door-person at every entrance. Oh yes, the course... If you've played Singha Park imagine it kicked up a couple notches and add lotsof trees. Dramatic bunkers on every hole, an absolute gem and a must play course. Very fair and playable with generous fairways, surprisingly good condition being so new. Fairways a little less than 'lush' in places is to be expected. Wish I could play it tomorrow. Future plans are for a massive complex, another 18 holes, hotel, condos, shopping mall, houses. It's worth the cost of the visa, if only for a day. I played it last year and again, Laos GCC did not disappoint, although it appeared dry in places. Still great value at 300,000 or about $40. #2 has to be one of my favourite par 5s anywhere. I have a load of pics, maybe I'll get around to ......
