Hi All,

Can any one give me some advice on where to find good, hard to find tools?

Specifically, I'm looking for:

- a good torque wrench (ratchet type)

- Torx key sockets for that wrench - for torx bolts (6 point star bolts), various sizes

- Allen/Hex key sockets for that wrench - for hex bolts, various sizes

The local home pro certainly doesn't have them.

Any advice would be great!

Cheers,

T.

Sukhumvit Soi 71 south? of Petkasem just by the klong. There is a block of tool shops opposite the ESSO? gas station.

Would someone be so kind and try to point us to the right area on Google Maps? I doubt i will be able to find it like this. Too many klongs and gas stations in Bangkok wai.gif

Neal and Dutch, thanks for the advice!

Wantan, good idea with the maps... I think I can find the spot on 71, but the Bangbuatong area seems a bit broad.

Thanks All,

T

Homepro has the META brand toolset, with torx and allen heads inside the kit in a green box. Been using my set for 10 years with no failures, comes with sockets up to 14mm, ratchet, 2 extensions, multiple flat and philips head attachemnts, t-handle, snake and driver also. Highly recommended but expensive @ 2k baht.

No torque wrench though.

Yep, about 5 shops all next ot eachoher on the West side of Sukumvit Soi 71 (opposite of the Esso gas station).

They're just South of the bridge that is South of Petchaburi.

This shop is the best I've seen in BKK for guys like us, they even have Snap On tools.

My direction were less than precise maybe even wrong I admit, but Soi 71 is only about 4kms long and only crosses one klong. Now if you are trying to use a GPS system in a car or on a bike then yes you need to be able to be able to tell the system where you want to go but a cursory look at Google maps would have got you to the right place.

Sometimes these small places are only found by walking, horror of horrors. As it is almost impossible to find them by driving / riding.

Of course the other sad fact of life is that one mapping system does not show all. So BingMaps does not show klongs, Google does not show all gas stations and Map Magic shows both but is not on-line. Sometimes a combination af all three is necessary.

BTW a small 3/8 torque wrench is only 880 baht. If Veerasiam Hardware is what the "more modern" looking shop is called they have both expensive and cheaper versions of most things.

There is another good tool shop which i have yet to visit on 77 subsoi 38 they have Facom wrenches some of which are unique as they have a non mechanical ratcheting action on one end for tight to reach places.

Worachak. And cheap too. Got a huge 30mm odd huge spanner to get the rear nut off my NSR SP there for about 300 baht. Everywhere else was mega expensive. Then someone needed to sit on the bike, both brakes on, and I belted the spanner with a club hammer to get that nut off...

At Worachak not only can you get the tool you want, you can also get it at the price/quality level you want. Otherwise known as Klong Tom.
