Republican big bill breaks promise on ending tax on soc. security but does something better
As many know, one of Trump's very loud campaign promises was to end federal tax on social security benefits. This was a stupid and damaging promise for a number of reasons -- Most social security recipients don't make enough total income to owe tax on it already! So cutting taxation out for all would help ONLY higher income people and do absolutely nothing for the majority lower income people. These taxes are put into the FUNDING for social security benefits so cutting all taxes for all accelerates the time when the entire program will need to make a major cut to benefits for all. Currently estimated at about ten years from now unless there is a reform bill passed. Instead of the broken promise the big bill proposes to increase the standard deduction for elderly people. This is MUCH BETTER because it helps more lower income people stay in the no SS tax bracket and does not cut out the vital funding source entirely. Higher income people will still owe SS tax even with the higher standard deduction. Of course the congressional bill with this new provision needs to pass first. However, it seems clear to me that the total elimination of federal taxes on SS will not happen. A broken promise that is GOOD NEWS. -

Accident Six Injured as Livestock Truck’s Brakes Fail, Causing Minibus Collision in Samut Sakhon

Six people were injured in a road crash on the afternoon of 20 May, when a livestock transport truck suffered brake failure and cut across a main road, causing a passenger minibus to crash violently into it. The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 on Rama II Road at kilometre marker 32+100, about 500 metres after the Tha Chin River bridge on the outbound side from Bangkok. The collision brought traffic to a complete standstill, blocking all lanes. Police Lieutenant Kittikul Phankongkaew, an investigator with Mueang Samut Sakhon Police Station, received the emergency report and coordinated with rescue teams from Samut Sakhon Hospital, Vibhavadi Hospital, Mahachai Hospital, and the Samut Sakhon Charity Foundation, who arrived with rescue tools to assist injured passengers trapped in the wreckage. The public minibus involved was operating on route 481–8 (Samut Songkhram–Samut Sakhon), registered under licence plate from Samut Songkhram. It had crashed into the rear of a six-wheeled livestock transport truck registered in Nakhon Sawan. Both vehicles were found blocking the entire width of the carriageway. The minibus’s front end was extensively damaged. Of the 13 passengers onboard, five were injured and sent to hospital for treatment. The driver sustained critical injuries. Other passengers, though visibly shaken and suffering minor injuries, declined hospital care. Another vehicle from the Mahachai terminal was dispatched to continue the passengers’ journey. According to 39-year-old Narong, the truck driver, he was driving inbound to Bangkok en route to pick up livestock in Chaiyaphum Province when he realised the brakes were failing. With traffic ahead heavily congested, he attempted to steer into a central opening in the median under the elevated Rama II construction site, hoping to safely stop and call for mechanical assistance. However, the truck could not be halted in time and veered into the outbound lane, directly into the path of the oncoming minibus, which crashed into it. Police have detained Mr Narong for further questioning at Mueang Samut Sakhon Police Station and will also interview the injured passengers as part of the ongoing investigation.
