My brother offered to send me his used iphone 3 to me as he [for $100] wants to upgrade and I currently have a samsung galaxy ace/cooper that I'm not that happy with and wondering if the iphone would make me happier??

If it is a used iphone, and sent as a gift would I have to pay customs and duties??

And it is locked on a us provider......can open the lock??

And bottom line.....would the iphone 3 be more user friendly for a dummie like me??

I have the cooper & my wife the Iphone4

As to user friendly I do not think you would have a problem with either.....

Except in regards to Itunes....While not really a problem for me I have often had to help my wife

when she wanted to do things with her Iphone

I do admit at times Itunes is a royal pain.....Where as with Android based equipment you can just plug it into your

computer & do/transfer what ever you want. You can use things like My Phone explorer (add on program ) or not.

It is very simple no fuss if you use a computer to use an android based device.

A lot of people think the Cooper is a nearly identical copy of the iPhone 3 (appearance), so you've certainly got a challenging dilemma.

Without understanding the reasons you are unsatisfied with the Cooper it is impossible to know if you will be happy with the iPhone 3?

Can you borrow an iPhone 3 or 3GS from someone for a few minutes?

Not sure about the locking/unlocking/jailbreaking...assume it's an AT&T original? Maybe read up on some forums or ask in the Apple forum here are unlocking issues.

It may well be cheaper/easier to buy a used iPhone here, if that's what you want?

There have been a ton of threads on TV over the years re: shipping electronics from the U.S. Some people pay nothing, some people pay normal VAT or duty, some people pay a lot more. Maybe search and read through some of those threads?

If it's a 3G then it's a bit slow - a 3GS is decent speed.

Unlocking can be a pain though, especially if it's been upgraded to the latest iOS - it's a bit of a science. Best to give it to a shop and let them do it. A locked 3G is probably not worth the trouble though.

iTunes isn't great but certainly better than moving files around by hand?!

The files are not heavy & we just drag them :)

Since we dont have to first drag them to a middle man it seems easier ;)
