alfredthegreat Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I currently don't have any medical insurance. I am 66 and now past the sell by date for most medical Insurance in Thailand. Unless I could qualify for over age 65 types of insurance, which is unlikely in my case, would setting up my own company give me the same privilege as a Thai to use a government hospital with then providing my tax ID? This is assuming any treatment I may have to receive in the future won't be too costly. Any advice on this will be appreciated.
TerryLH Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Check with your Social Security Office, but I think you're already over the age to get into the system. You can use government hospitals now. Anyone can. Just pay as you go. Reasonably inexpensive for most stuff.
sbk Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Actually, pretty sure owners/directors do not have the right to the social security system, its for employees only. DH does not have social security through his own business but his staff do.
inzman Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 But if I am an employee of a company can I get free insurance? I work for a school.
TerryLH Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 "But if I am an employee of a company can I get free insurance?" "I work for a school." If your employer will pay the premiums, with no co-pay or deductibles, then you would have free insurance. If you work at a private school, they can provide you with insurance, or not. It just depends on what they are willing to provide. If you are working at a government school you should be eligible for Thai Social Security. It's not free, there are payments. Up to a maximum of 750 baht per month. At the hospital, under normal situations, you wouldn't have to pay anything extra.
mogandave Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Thai government insurance is available to owners and directors as long as they are paying the taxes. Company pays half & employee pays half. Also, you have to use the card in spicific hospitals, not any government hospital.
