Crime Former Paramilitary Arrested for Fatal Gang Shooting After Facebook Feud
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A former paramilitary ranger has been arrested for his role in a deadly gang shooting in a Bangkok community, which stemmed from a heated exchange on Facebook. The suspect, who had been on the run, was captured in a rural area of Surin Province. Acting on the orders of Pol. Maj. Gen. Wittaya Sriprasertphap, Commander of the Crime Suppression Division, a team led by Pol. Col. Suriyasak Jirawat and Pol. Lt. Col. Kittipop Thongpetch arrested Mr. Srisawat, also known as “Dok Rak,” aged 35. He was wanted under an arrest warrant issued by Phra Khanong Provincial Court for charges including murder, attempted murder, and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Mr. Srisawat was apprehended in a remote hut in Dan Subdistrict, Kap Choeng District, Surin Province. The charges relate to an incident in June 2023, when Mr. Srisawat, along with two accomplices, allegedly attacked a rival group in Bang Na District, Bangkok. The groups had an ongoing conflict dating back to their time in Surin, which escalated online with provocative posts on Facebook. Following the social media altercation, Mr. Srisawat and his group launched a violent armed assault on their rivals in Soi 20, Bang Na, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. Police had previously arrested two of the three suspects shortly after the attack. Intelligence finally indicated that Mr. Srisawat had fled to his hometown in Surin, prompting the recent successful operation to apprehend him. During interrogation, Mr. Srisawat confessed to the attack, stating that the Facebook challenge led him and his two friends to retaliate violently.
