Recommendations For Competent Chiropractor?

Bioenergy Asia Soi 23 Sukumvit. Dr Don Nakoya an American is first class. I highly reccomend him

Isn't this in Chiang Mai did they move Sukumvit.

I think the poster is on the wrong thread, or he might be suggesting that if the pain is really bad then go to Bangkok instead of suffering. In cases like this it doesn't need to be just Chiang Mai, if there's no help here.....which there isn't as far as chiropractors go.

One day maybe we're going to add a Sukumvit Stn to our super duper mass overhead transit system?

I went to a spine health specialist for 'chiropractic adjustment' in Chiang Mai last week. Let me say that I don't know all of his credentials and I am not specifically recommending him or saying that he is a fully fledged chiropractor.. All that I can say is that I went with lower back pain which the previous time took 2 months of physio to cure and after one 10 minute session the pain has almost gone.

This was Amata Health near Manenarakorn Hotel

Have you considered contacting Dr Philip Parry http://www.doctorphilip.com He practices in Bangkok & Chiang Mai.

Good luck

Ally

Looks to have some very good qualifications. Thanks for posting the link. I would be interested to hear from any members who have been treated by him. As I understand from his website, he is available on weekends. Good news.

A few clarifications on this thread.

#uptheos - chiropractic has been legally recognised in Thailand for a few years now, so anyone you see should have a thai licence on top of their western education. Dr Don and Dr Parry mentioned above both have licences.

#bluweyze - great result. You must be happy wtih that!!

Dr Don is in Sukhumvit, and has been established many years. He's widely known and respected.

Dr Parry works in Chiang mai mid week, and at Piyavate hospital in Bkk on weekends. He has additional qualifications in paediatrics, so very suitable for kids etc also. Having worked with him before in Bangkok, I can say that the adjustments are quite gentle, and the diagnosis very thorough. He will likely tell you before he treats whether chiropractic will help and what the outcome will be. Usually all sorted within a couple sessions.

No matter what else you choose to do, ALWAYS get a couple chiropractic assessments before you let someone start cutting into you in order to help pain. You can always choose that later.

He manipulated my back, especially my lower back and legs mostly and yes it hurt, having never been to a chiropractor I don't know what to expect but I'm really pleased with the results. If I had a more serious back problem I would have done a great deal more research beforehand.

Thanks for the info....what type of liability insurance do they carry, any idea, or do you have to sign a disclaimer?

What type of liability do they carry here in Thailand.passifier.gif Good one can just see a Farong suing a doctor for malpractice here in Thailand.

Seriously though I heard that they had to be licensed in another country first.

Rumor is that the hospital across from the Holiday inn is going to get one for on staff. I had heard that they had a good physio department there.giggle.gif

That is the rumor please do not confuse us with facts.

Actually with that good a Physio department it would make sense to have a Chiropractor on staff.

And if you'd done that research, would your experience have lived up to your expectations?

Did he give you a good talk about why you should be manipulated? Did it seem clear to you that a manipulation was what you needed?

It's very interesting to me, i'd like to visit a recommended chiropractor, but still have a reticence about manipulations.

And of course there is always Pilates. A exercise/therapy form that turns you into your own chiropractor. Pilates has become big in physio-therapy over the last 15 years.

Do a search for "pilates chiangmai". I'll be glad to meet for a free consultation.

Cheers, Mark

ps - I have worked 5 years for the Chiangmai Ballet as their Pilates instructor...

Amata Health:

There is a guy in Chiang Mai pretending to be educated as a chiropractor. I called him once to find out his adjustment technique and credentials. I spent a couple of years at Palmer Chiropractic College and it was obvious after a brief conversation that all this self proclaimed chiropractor had done is take a short seminar in adjusting and really had no training. You might want to make sure the "chiropractor" you are thinking about seeing in Chiang Mai is really a chiropractor in the Western sense of being properly educated and licensed! He calls himself a DC. Google Taiwan chiropractic education and you will get a better understanding of him.

Well said; you might walk in with back pain, but you also might not walk out!!

It's obvious that there is not much of an understanding of chiropractic care. It's been around a long time and is covered by many insurance plans. It started with Osteopathic doctors using manipulations. When the Osteopath Doc's joined the American Medical Association years and years ago and became medical Doctors, the Medical Associations tried to get the Chiropractic doctors to join as well, but they wanted to remain seperate and keep with the chiropractice spinal science. Osteopaths can proscribe medicine like regular doctors, but Chiropractors, since not medical doctors, are not licensed to prescribe medicine, but can prescribe non-medicine supplements.

There is nothing to fear from chiropractic adjustments. I would worry more about these unskilled practicioners of Thai Massage. Have experienced chiropractic care for almost 40 years until coming to Chiang, Thailand 15 years ago. It's nice to know about this Dr. and will plan on seeing him for some spinal pain from a fall and some arthritus starting. Yes, sometimes you can hear some popping or cracking, but you can experience that yourself without a chiropractor's manipulation. It doesn't hurt. Chiropractors did not join the medical community because they felt that by aligning the spine it releses the pinched nerves connected to the spine that affects every organ of the body without patients taking a lot of drugs. I don't remember exactly, but seemed like my mother, who used chiropractic care al her life was even covered by her medicare insurance in the US.

Usually a chiropractor will take a spinal xray and then discuss in detail what your problem is and the treatment. If your subject to neck pain and vascular headaches they can help that as well. Thanks for posting the information on the Chiangmai Dr. from Bangkok. Have already emailed him.

I have already contacted Dr. Parry, and received the following back within 15 minutes:

Thank you for your email. If you are in Chiangmai the details are as follows:

I charge 1,000 Baht here at my home clinic in Doi Saket however I will be working at the Rajavej Hospital (opposite the Holiday Inn Hotel on the Chiangmai - Lampoon Rd) starting on the 28th February (Tues & Fri 1pm - 7pm) & we will be charging 800 Baht initially for the first 3 months.

To answer your other question, I don't sell courses so there are no minimum number of visits. The goal is to work with you according to your needs and my experience is that most issues can be resolved between 2 and 6 visits.

Regards,

--

Dr Philip Parry BSc Chiro (Hons), MSc Chiro (Paeds), FCC

Chiropractor (UK & Thai registered)

Great news since the hospital is a lot closer than Doi Saket. Hope this information helps others. I plan to see him soon.

I went to see Dr Philip recently for migraines which I have had for many years, he explained everything very clearly & solved the problem in no time. I still can't believe they have gone & I'm thriiled with the outcome. He's from the UK & has a licence here in Thailand too.

He did tell me that he will be working part-time at the hospital opposite the Holiday Inn downtown during the week & he works at a hospital in Bangkok on the weekends too.

That's great news! I used to have vascular headaches and pinched nerves in neck and back and chiropractic adjustments kept me feeling good for years. Will definately go see him! Haven't had adjustments for over 14 years and due to a couple minor falls, I need some adjustment. Hope more people with problems like that try him. The medicl Drs just want to throw muscle relaxers, pain, and anti-inflammatory medice at you. Those are good in combination with chiropractic adjustment to release the pinched nerves attached to your spine.

I saw Dr Parry 2 days ago. I cannot speak too highly about him. The back pains I went to see him about were not his within his scope, they were for a cardiologist. He referred me on to a superb cardiologist who has given me the first accurate diagnosis after 6 weeks of trailing around various doctors and hospitals.

I thought Dr Parry was very proficient and his examination was thorough. Incidently I did leave his surgery bring able to turn my head and look over my shoulders, which I have not been able to do for many years.

Seeing Dr Parry was money well spent

" I cannot speak too highly about him." Uhhh O.K. but maybe you meant something else since you went on to praise him.

Any way thank you. Your post is helpful.

  • 3 weeks later...
  • 6 months later...

After 3 weeks of discomfort, acupuncture, and massage (both of which helped but did not solve the problem) I went to see Dr. Krit Thongpaeng, a Taipei-trained chiropractor and a good one.

His office, manned by his wife and new baby, is in the circle that runs around the Maninarakorn Hotel at 99/16 Srdonchai Rd., in the storefront office to the left. The sign above the door says, simply 'Tiens'.

He is not a common 'neck cracker'. He does a thorough exam and evaluation and tells you what the problem is. Then he spends time using pressure points to loosed up the spastic muscles, followed by a firm manipulation. My criterion for choosing body-workers is that if they can't fix you on the first visit they'll never be able to. he did. Hence this recommendation.

Don't be put off by the chaoric surroundings. 500 Bt. for normal treatment. Website: www.kritdc.com. Phone 08-1496-9143.
