are you a professional teacher? If so, I'd say any time of year. My wife has come over with me as my job has brought me back here and she has picked up lots of temp work paying anywhere up to 4,000 baht per day.

Samran do you mean you and your wife are in Thailand?

Also what work does she do for that amount of money, seems very good to me.

Yes we are in BKK. She is a qualified primary school teacher, having worked in NZ, UK, Thailand and the middle east at a variety of international schools.

She is temping at the moment on a day to day basis at some one of the better international schools in BKK. She doesn't work every day, only when one of there regulars is off sick. She however is only doing it for pocket money, as she is preganant and having a baby shortly.

My point is that if you are a qualified teacher from the UK, and have some expereince teaching there, you'll have a much easier time finding a good full time job somewhere when you get to Thailand.

if you call 4000B a day pocket money then you must be fairly rich - how much do you call a bad wage?

yeah, sounded pretty bad didn't it?

Well, we are having a baby, so 2 incomes will turn into one. So what is earnt today will not necessarily be spent today....and will have to be spread a bit thinly over the next year or so!!

It should also be noted that as a substitute, a teacher is likely to be paid a higher daily or hourly rate than a regular teacher would, to offset the infrequency of the work. Though I believe there *are* full-time teachers in Bangkok who do earn the equivalent of 4K or more a day, and from what I hear they work hard for the money!

That's an interesting rate, 4000 baht for a full day of substitute teaching for a qualified teacher at an intern'al school. My daughter's school district in Texas supposedly pays less than that for an ESL substitute, although Californians say they get over US$150 per day.

How much a person makes per hour or per day is almost meaningless if it comes to less than 25,000 baht per month (or 300,000 baht per year) in lieu of a full time regular position.
