Water Truck In A Ditch

Sorry, no photo, but did anyone see the Green Water truck in the ditch on Patak Road near Soi Plukjae this morning?

With the rear end in the ditch, the front end out, facing against the traffic, my question is, how did it manage to enter the ditch at that particular angle? Must have been some spectacular loss of control, though it is possible the driver was trying a u-turn, I suppose.

Yes, I saw the accident shortly after it happened. Looked like the water truck was making it's way up the hill, stalled while changing gears, brakes not hold, and the driver turned the wheel the wrong way thus veering backwards across the road into the ditch. A motorbike was involved, the rider was flat out on his back but was using the mobile phone..

OH NO the poor motorcyle guy.. but I do over and over see people inch right up to the back of trucks. ...

Could not resist taking a photo... earlier today..

As I was also wondering how that could happen.

Also a few weeks ago in Kata Noi a water truck rolled down the hill, hand break issue. Nearly whiped out some shacks at the Kata Rocks labour camp.

Gotta be impressed with those orange cones!! That is a first and certainly necessary.. I am sure some of yo noticed the horrific last minute warning a few days ago for the road work being done further north on Patak.. Was waiting for one of those speeding vehicles to crash.. it was about 5 meter advance warning and a white sign ..pff

I was impressed with the warning markers as well.

Much better than a few braches from a nearby tree,

Thanks for the explanation LiK,

One motorbike involved is too much but it's lucky there were not more vehicles wiped out.

Maybe the driver went into the ditch on purpose

Its the type of thing an experienced heavy vehicle driver would do

to stop the truck running out of control back down the hill

especially on that section of the road

I've seen this happen in the past. Driver's try to steer (backwards) into the crash barrier on their side of the road. A backward veer across the road causes great danger to cars coming round the bend and up the hill.

Truck is back on the road. extensive misalignment of the back wheels and chassis twisted. Oh well another truck lurching along the road well misaligned.

//update - just back home and there are 2 guys trying to repair the 'twisted gear' by the roadside with just hand tools .. amazing Thailand.

Side swiping a crash barrier would not stop a truck in most occasions

on a hill as steep as that

Turning across the road into the drain always will, the truck does not

have enough time to pick up speed

Also traffic from both directions can see what is happening and have time to stop

Further down the hill at the bend this is not so

The owner of this truck carry out some excellent maintance (for TH). Doesnt compensate for the overload of water tho.
