No victim, no crime :-P Were the missiles sold/used?

Yes they were, definitely many victims and besides have you ever heard of intent?

Weapons running a victimless crime, too funny.

If it weren't so tragic it might be...

Who buys illegal weapons from a arms merchant and does NOT intend to use them?

No one puts up that kind of money without an end purpose.

Intent to buy means intent to use,

and that means some victims in the future.

Case closed.

" Victor Bout has been in solitary confinement for over a year."

Anyone guess why the prison would decide to do that? Seems a bit excessive.

Based on nature of charge can be done according to former administration as a part of their war on terror.

It is either a crime in all cases or not a crime in all cases.

Why is it that some people just love double-standards?

Much truth to this.

Viktor Bout Prefers Thai Prison

and now he wants a Russian Prison...

U.S. denies Russia request for convicted arms dealer Bout

The United States has refused a request from Russia that convicted arms dealer Viktor Bout be returned to his home country to spend the remainder of his 25-year prison term, a Russian Foreign Ministry official said on Saturday.

Bout, 54, was sentenced in April after a Manhattan federal court trial jury convicted him on charges that he agreed to sell arms to people he thought were militants intent on attacking American soldiers in Colombia.

Bout had lived untroubled in Russia, frustrating U.S. officials seeking his prosecution, until he was lured to Bangkok. Russia fought unsuccessfully for his repatriation from Thailand after his arrest.

You really have to laugh at Russia claiming he is innocent and asking the states to let him serve his time back in Russia where he will spend less than a week.

I wonder if they think the American education is as low as theirs.

I think if the Russians had something sufficiently attractive to the US in exchange for Bout, he'd be on the plane to Moscow fairly quickly. Sometimes this side or that sees an advantage in putting parts of the negotiations in the public domain and sometimes it is all kept behind closed doors.

This press release has come from the Russian side. Perhaps it plays well with the domestic audience. Anyway, the decision over going public will have been considered and the pros and cons weighed up.
