mstribling
I understand the convention. Name, house #, soi, moo baan...Thailand. What I'm unaware of is when written in English; does the tambon, amphoe, province, zip code, and county all go on the same line? Does a comma separate the zip code from the country? I currently use this format. MY NAME 111/111 my estate Ko Khwang, Amphoe Mueng Chanthaburi, 22000, Thailand My mail gets delivered without a problem, but am wondering if it is correct English. TerryLH
I usually put: Name Number and street Tambon XYZ, Amphoe ABC Province 00000 (zip) Thailand (When addressing from outside the country) Edited February 12, 2012 by TerryLH
tutsiwarrior
when I got a residence certificate from thai immigration they just wanted plot number, amphoe and province and this is what appears on my thai driver's license...at immigration for my retirement extension of stay they want full details including street name, tambon and etc... I get all my mail delivered to my local post office box with just PO number, amphoe, province and postal code...this has worked well when ordering merchandise from the internet for delivery.... mstribling
I usually put: Name Number and street Tambon XYZ, Amphoe ABC Province 00000 (zip) Thailand (When addressing from outside the country) So I am incorrect when only putting "Amphoe Mueng"? I should write "Amphoe Mueng Chanthaburi, Chanthaburi, 22000, Thailand." to be correct?
TerryLH
No need to put Amphoe Muang Chantaburi, Chantaburi. The A. you are in is Muang. The province is Chantaburi. Tambon XYZ, Amphoe Muang Chantaburi 22000
WinnieTheKhwai
It also differs a little between places, specifically between larger cities (esp. Bangkok) and elsewhere. For example: - The name of the estate (or condo building) is not needed, but you can put it anyway to add some information - The house number may be a regular number or a Moo/plot number, eg. 12/345 - There may or may not be a street name - There may or may not be a soi number or soi name. - Bangkok uses 'Kwaeng' for the district. - Outside of Bangkok there will typically be a tambon and amphur. In this particular case of the OP I would personally write: MY NAME my estate 111/111 T. Ko Khwang A. Muang Chanthaburi Thailand 22000 I guess where the postal code goes you can debate a little but it doesn't matter much. The main thing that I would do is put the plot number together with the tambon; those go together. And A. Muang and the province I think makes it nice and short; when you write Muang adn the province then there's no real need to repeat the province. If there is a different amphur then I would move the province to the next line, like so: 111/111 T. TambonName A. AmphurName 22000 Chanthaburi Thailand
astral
I got myself a PO Box after finding that the postman was simply dumping part of the mail instead of delivering it
mstribling
Great info guys. Really helps a lot. Obviously have too much time on my hands if in worrying about address formats. I've been lucky. I've always received every letter I was expecting. Relatively quick. Again. Thanks.
