  • Prostitution exists worldwide and is part of human history. For God's sake get a life. Moralists.....you got to hate em. From what I have heard this man was one of the biggest massage parlour owners in Bangkok and now he has found the lord and is all pure and innocent. Now I guess he is rich out of it he wants to close it all down. There are far worse atrocities and crimes to be concerned about. ...boring !!!

the majority of these girls have little to no education, and this is a way of providing sufficient funds for them to survive, and also to send money to family. The thai government needs to encourage the younger generation to try stay in school and also to provide good grants for 3rd level education.

Absolutely wrong. The Thai government needs to figure out a way of making Thailands schools effective. Staying in school, and getting a degree does not mean much when it only means you will make 12,000 per month, instead of 7,000 bt. per month working in a factory. And that is if you are lucky enough to get that 12K position. No, Thailand has to work on improving the quality of its education, like its neighbors are doing, or it will get left behind.

Unfortunately they are already getting left behind. You hit the nail on the head with this that I think only a few see it. With the other ASEAN countries rapidly developing with a better rule of law that Thailand, a better education system with an emphasis on English proficiency, you already see Thailand falling behind.

I've Got The SOLUTION:

Make gambling-casinos LEGAL - the take 50% of the PROFIT from these casinos and re-invest this 50% in EDUCATION [improve the level of education [and somehow improve the funding for schools and teachers (!!!0]

It's a no-brainer !

If nobody wants to sell sex, it is a crime to force anyone to do so. But when men or women do want to sell their bodies, they should have that full right without encountering punishment or discrimination. If the client behaves decently, the relationship between the sex buyer and the sex seller must be considered a purely private transaction.

No problem with that. Prostitution is worldwide where there are legal brothels visited by the desparate and lonely. In Thailand it is out in the open, move it into brothels and behind closed doors away from public view. The sex tourist can enter the brothel, dump his load and move on. The girls won't be druugging the victim inside a brothel where he will pass out for hours as they need the bed for the next punter. The punter won't be fleeced of all the valuables unless he is stupid enough to take them all to the brothel. A brothel would be more controlled

It seems you have had some unfortunate experiences. Perhaps you should consider raising the class of establishment and/or partner, as many of us who have lived many years don't seem to have had similar problems.

You must also realise that ALL of the young ladies with whom I have discussed the matter, do not consider themselves to be prostitutes, and the thought of working in a "knocking shop" would be quite abhorrent. The Thai word for prostitute is so-pee-nee. If you shoould choose to use that to refer to a bar-girl or massage parlour attendant the result might well be quite ugly.

You are correct. The girls do not see themselves as "prostitutes" and that word is not polite. I guess getting the girls to openly admit thay are prostitutes would be analagous to some of their clients admitting they are astonishingly not "hansum slim man"

If Chuwit is truly serious about this he should name the politicians and all the VIP's with an interest in it. Otherwise he should shut up and stop glory hunting.

How long do you think he would survive in Thailand if he did that? Would be the old story, motor bike pulls up along side his car and the pillion passenger pops a couple of rounds into him. 10,000 baht and it's back to business as usual.

This Guy is crazy...made his living with this buseness for all his life...he is sick...obsceen and a hipacreat. I can't spell but you know what I mean...I do have what is called common sence...and I feel Thailand is in for some rough times down the road a bit. He aint helping one little bit.

He is part of the problem not the solution. I have traveled all over Thaialand and have seen working Ladies in every town and city. They are not for us Americans and why does he think he should go to the US Embassey???? That buseness was here before the Viet Nam war and will be here long after he is dead and gone. We did not start it! He thinks he is go-like...the man to listen to, the man with all the answers...he is a clown...a joke. But he has money and so he is also dangerous.

While the "in your face" brand of Thai prostitution can be over the top, will someone please tell me how in essence this differs from the habit of many "enlightened" Western women who are nothing more than over-priced golddigging drama queens with bad attitudes??? At least in Thailand, there is no mistaking what's going on with all this "you handsum man" crap.

It's a no-brainer for whom? The people who own these illegal gambling dens control (or are) politicians - they do not want to pay taxes, they do not want competition, they like the status quo. Even though real casinos can make incredible amounts of money, they do not want to risk what they have already. The police networks and political contacts are already i9nnplace to stamp out competition and to keep the money rolling in. The games are so biased, that formal casinos could never get away with them. These are the same sort of people that fill up their gambling dens with uneducated people (who else would bet at 1:12 odds!) and their massage parlours with unemployable dirt farmer's daughters. Why would they want them educated?

Education is paid for by the state - illegal casinos make money for the individual - would any such individual want to see either of those statements change? The rich get richer and the poor get dumber!

Surely, it is okay for men to have second and third little wives, though, right? And ladyboys are held in such high esteem. Whatever will they do?

Maybe all the whorehouses can be moved to the borders so entry has to come from neighboring countries and make them the pimpmazing.

If you accept money for sex it's prostitution, (prostituting oneself). Call it happy ending or what you like, it's still prostitution. coffee1.gif

For the Thai government to act on this immediately would be like trying to cut off both arms and both legs: the economy would stumble badly.

This is a two generation - 25 year project. The Govt should start now, but as everyone has pointed out, everyone including the complainant has a vested interest in this not happening. He knows nothing with happen so this is just grandstanding - likes the cops annual call for teenagers to behave on valentines day.

Only Thai women can make this happen

If he wants to stamp out prostitution in Thailand, he had best find a way for all the single mothers and those who are engaged in the trade to support their parents another way of earning, I doubt many would opt for a lower income.

The difficulty here is in defining who is a prostitute and who isn't. My first encounter with my Thai wife was a financial one, in other words I paid her to have sex with me. But I could just have easily have become married to an estate agent, a hotel receptionist, a manager of an Internet cafe or an optician. I did not pay for sex with them, but all these ladies had one thing in common, they intended to meet and marry a farang to improve their lives and the lives of their families. All are graduates including my spouse. They were from Chonburi, Sri Racha, Bangkok, Phuket and Khorat so no preponderance of Isaan

Can you truly differentiate between these 5 ladies? At the end of the day they will all cost you money in one way or another.

But that's life. Ladies from all parts of the globe sell their bodies in one guise or another. Even women who are of independent means often turn to their male partners for financial support.

Prostitution is here to stay. In UK it's endemic. The important thing is to make sex as safe as possible, and to try to dissuade very young people from engaging in it.

Maybe no education but most of "these girls" speak better english than most Thai Uni students. "These girls" will be the ones to prosper come 2015 Asean. An good luck to them.

Wot no service charge, VAT...? If it is charged, is there a refund for tourists? I guess if it's a business, it will need to be registered, and have appropriate premises and standards of cleanliness, hygiene, etc. This is done in other countries, but I have no idea how successful it is.

Another issue is "freedom to choose". This assumes no economic duress, no physical duress, no family or social pressures, and a world of other options from which to choose "freely". Like a choice between becoming a doctor, an architect, a lawyer, a politician, or a prostitute. There MAY be some who "want" to sleep with a variety clients for money, who are willing to risk physical abuse and disease, but I doubt that the majority have a free choice about it, and are obliged to do so due to socio-economic circumstances they cannot control.

Just an opinion, others welcome.

Morality and integrity are not hallmarks of society. Prostitution seems to be but another flavor of cheating and corruption, and lack of the above first 2. The human trafficking stuff is reprehensible.

I'd suggest to start with the brothels full of under age kids that are frequented by Thais only.

While I despise child prostitution and support the notion to cut one's member when being caught in an under age brothel with a kid in bed, I do believe that adult prostitutes should be protected by the law, just like any other citizen. There is a very easy solution: Decriminalize, tax, regulate... it's the oldest profession/business in the world, get over yourself and make it legal...

"the colourful politician said he would go to the US Embassy today to provide information on human trafficking."

Why go to the U.S Embassy what has it got to do with the U.S, They aren't the worlds police or have authority in Thailand.

The guys intentions are probably good but I get the feeling that he may have signed his own death warrant. I lot of powerful and currupt people in Thailand will not like what he plans to do.

The streets do need to be cleaned up a lot with prostitution in your face 24/7 and the image doesn't really fit that of a family holiday destination.

Perhaps he's trying to win back his "human trafficking" based revoked US visa?

And mainly the mums and dads who send their lovely daughters to the "market place"
