Teach In Thailand With Criminal Record

Featured Replies

I'm interested to teach English in Thailand and would like to know if I can legally work there with a previous criminal record. 5years ago I was convicted for drunk driving in England. I served a one-year suspened sentence.

I would like to add that I have never actually been to prison and just served a suspended sentence. I've made a mistake and paid the price and would just like to know if this would stop me teaching in Thailand.

I'm no expert but it's unlikely that this would stop you, don't such convictions get wiped after so long anyway.

In the UK it takes 10 years before the conviction is "spent"....it actually never comes off your "record"

OP guess you would need to ask the Thai authorities as am I sure things like this are decided on a case for case basis

Perhaps the Teaching forum would be of more help

They can and might ask for a Criminal Record Check and if they do then you are hooped. if not then you are ok.

Hope you have a degree too or you will be working for peanuts.

Would you be able to teach in England?
