Does anyone know anything about being an air courier?  I live in NY and would like to see if it's possible to get really cheap flights to Bangkok

Have you already searched the Internet, for example with the words “air courier”?

I looked into it briefly many years ago before moving to Thailand. The biggest issue is that you are on call and have to accept a route at an instance notice. Plays havoc with your job. :o

I used to do a lot of courier flights on my early visits to LOS but the concept seems to have dried up.

One outfit I used a lot was POLO express (dont know if still going..but )and the most popular route/carrier was Lufthahsia,KLM ,China Air and Singapore Airways.

Up until about 1995 tics from UK /LOS were pretty expensive..£600-700 and the £ was around about 35-44 bt so when i got my first chance in the 80 s to go for at that time £220 -250 ...why not.

Mostly it was just a case of carrying a couple of letters (the flights manifests)but with B.A. you usually ended up with a "Speedbird 1" briefcase and it was collar and tie stuff and even suggested no booze... :o:D ...joking.

Customs at Bangers airport could be 2 minutes but in one case I was stuck for 3 hours ...never found out why?

Came back once on BA and at last minute the IRA started chucking morters at Heathrow so got diverted to Stanstead but no body to take my brief.....o dear ..gold bullion..found out later.. :D

One old guy know got a call on the Friday to go to Singapore on the following Monday..urgently for £10 return....

Many of the airlines now use their own staff if they need anything hand carried and since they get cheap flight concessions even better (but not for us old faithfulls)..still you can only try...

bit of info here I think...
