Hi,

Just a quickie here;

when applying for a settlement visa for a thai wife to the uk does she have to provide proof that she will return? as with the visitors visa?

surely if your planning to SETTLE then you dont plan to return?

You are correct. If she applying for a settlement visa to the UK, then she does not have to provide proof that she will return to Thailand.

Yes you are right If she applying for a settlement visa to the UK, then she does not have to provide proof that she will return to Thailand.

She would have provide proof if she was applying for a vistor visa.

Totally agree with the above reponses.

However, in the interview she might be asked questions relating to the reasons why she wants to settle in the Uk and what is she going to do etc. Just have a think about how she will respond to those types of questions.

The nature of a settlement visa means that your wife will be leaving whatever employment she has in Thailand, so proof of it is not necessary. If, however, she has a job lined up in the UK, then it can be advantageous to provide evidence of this.

Providing the person concerned is entitled to work - yes.

A settlement visa holder is entitled to work aren't they?

If so, do they still have a work permit or is the visa itself all that's required to show?

A fiancé(e) visa is also a settlement visa, but the holder can't work until they are married and have extended their stay at the Home Office.

No additional work permit is required, but some employers might insist on a second form of proof that the holder can work; e.g.a national insurance number. Technically, though, the visa is proof in itself that the holder is entitled to take employment.
