Non O Marriage - Multi Entry

Featured Replies

hi guys,

travelling out of thailand in the next 60 days. my non o marriage extension is up next week.

its unlikely i will be in Thailand to renew it again the next time, next year.

my question is........... is there any point in getting an extension (multi) if I am leaving soon. if i get a multi, when I leave, does the date still apply when its up in a year or does it stop and restart again when i come back in. hope you understand what I mean.

was thinking of getting the visit wife 60 day extension. i will be travelling back to thailand every 11 weeks for 5 days.

are there any immediate advantages to getting the non o renewed ?

will i be grandfathered on the 400,000 baht requirement as I have been married 3 years or will it be the new requirements when i re-apply for a non-o in about 2 years time. ( job contract is for 2 years)

thanks in advance for your advice. wai.gif

I presume that with multi you mean a multiple -re-entry permit. A re-entry permit only keeps your current permisison to stay alive, it doesn't add any days. So you still need to be back when your permission to stay is up for renewal. Since that appears not to be the case a re-entry permit would not be useful. You will have to get a new visa before you return. But you can apply for an extension up to 30 days in advance.

The re-entry permit might be useful if you plan to return often, like you do. But a multiple non-O visa from a consulate would also be an option.

Actually you do not seem to need any visa for your next two years as you will travel with a round trip ticket and can use visa exempt entry of 30 days for all those 5 day visits.

thanks for that. my main concern is that my present non o marriage will expire on the 3rd march this year. will i have to go through all the first time non o stuff again when i reapply, like home visit, immigration talking to neighbours etc; also because i got married when the 400,000 baht rule was in place, when i reapply will i be subject to the new rules 2 years from now or will I be grandfathered from first application.

do you think the 60 day extension to visit wife is my best option as i will be gone in 50 days ? am i just better to let my current non o marriage expire ? thanks.

The cost is the same so if you have time to do the normal 30 day wait for approval this year I would go for the one year extension of stay. Who knows; your job could change and you have time to do again next year. If not it is not that much of a process to start over as the same information is required every time.

thanks, but surely if i get it extended, the moment i leave in 50 days it will be null and void. Yes ?

Not if you obtain a re-entry permit - that will cost 3,800 baht for the full period of your extension allowing unlimited travel and return for the same date you get after your extension. Get the re-entry permit immediately after the extension of stay final stamp.

thanks. will immigration still stamp me in and out of thailand when i return every 11 weeks ? or will they see re-entry permit and not stamp. sorry for all these questions. so what you mean is I can come and go as i please for the duration of the extension and dont have to go back to immigration to get additional stamps when i leave again ?

They will have to stamp you in each time and will take extra time as stamp will have to be reset to do this. Be sure they got it right before you leave the desk area.

You enter the re-entry permit number as your visa on the arrival card.

thanks for all your help.

it appears though that i will have to go to nan to submit my paperwork (4 hours drive) then wait the 30 days. then drive back to nan to get my passport stamped (another 4 hours) and pay an additional 3800 baht (total 5800 baht) and i might not be able to make it back to renew again next year. seems the best option is to get a 60 day extension (1800 baht) and i,m finished. I know i will have to go through the non o marriage nonsense again (house visit etc) but thats a small price to pay. I will only be flying back for 5 days every 11 weeks, to Bangkok to get another 3 month business visa for myanmar. when i come in to thailand i will be entitled to a 30 day visa exempt on arrival anyway. what do you think ?

As is said - up to you. If you believe job will remain then the marriage extension would not be possiable next year so no real reason to add time/expense for it this year.
