Democrats staging walk-out at crucial debate

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The Democrats on Thursday staged a walk-out during a crucial debate on two financial decrees to protest an unrelated decision to drop their motion to query the prime minister about her private meeting at Four Seasons Hotel.

As the House-Senate meeting to debate two financial decrees coincided with the House's question-and-answer session, the Democrats had sought and received the parliamentary approval for posing queries concurrent with the decrees debate.

The Democrats subsequently tabled a motion to pick up on the last week's quesry session which ended before PM Yingluck Shinawatra could explain how and why she had the private meeting with real estate develpers.

Parliament President Somsak Kiarsuranont said in his capacity as House Speaker, he had already ruled to drop the query last week since it expired on the House floor regardless of whether or not Yingluck rebutted it.

This prompted protests from the Democrats. Opposition chief whip Jurin Laksanavisit said the query was still an active agenda because Democrat MP Rangsima Rodrasamee had just had an opportunity to pose a partial question and not the entire query on the House floor.

Somsak said he stood by his decision to drop the query. In an apparent move to work out a compromise, Pheu Thai MP Cholnan Srikaew said the Democrats should file a new motion to query Yingluck. But Jurin said this was impossible because the Democrats did not agree or concede to Somsak's decision to cancel the query.

The Democrats then walked out in protest. This tantamounted to an end to the House intervention to resolve the mystery behind the Four Seasons meeting. The incident is being probed by the Office of Ombudsman, the last venue to shed light.

There government are doing their damnedest to hide what went on at this "no meeting" "private business meeting" "government related business meeting" ... what are they currently trying to call it?

It looks like Yingluk has no answer she can give.

Maybe she's quite happy to see the opposition spinning their wheels over this.

Funny, I thought a week was time enough to cook up a big pot of Plausible Deniability.

Except that week has only provided more reasons why those excuses hold no water.

If there is nothing to hide, talk and be questioned, of there is something to hide..... STONEWALL!

Yes, agree and love the opposition "hissy fit".

"The Democrats on Thursday staged a walk-out during a crucial debate on two financial decrees to protest an unrelated decision to drop their motion to query the prime minister about her private meeting at Four Seasons Hotel"

How very constructive.

A walk out during a crucial debate............

No wonder they are only opposition and unlikely to obtain democratic responsibilities.

Before you can walk out, you have walk in. The PM is very reluctant to do this it seems, as she might have to answer questions without a script, or god forbid, make a decision and then put that decision into an understandable sentence without falling into a minefield of prevarication, dissemination, obfuscation and perjury which form the greater part of her utterances.

BANGKOK: -- Democrat MPs staged a walkout yesterday during a debate on two financial decrees to protest over an unrelated issue - the House Speaker's decision to drop their motion to query the premier about her private meeting at Four Seasons Hotel.

Since the House-Senate meeting to debate two financial decrees coincided with the House's question-and-answer session, the Democrats sought and received parliamentary approval for posing queries concurrent with the debate on the decrees.

The Democrats subsequently tabled a motion to pick up on last week's session, which had ended before Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra could explain why she had a private meeting with real-estate developers.

However, Parliament President Somsak Kiarsuranont, in his capacity as House Speaker, said that the query had already been tabled last week and could not be put back on the agenda regardless of whether or not Yingluck had responded.

This decision prompted protests from the Democrats, as Opposition chief whip Jurin Laksanavisit said the query was still on the agenda because Democrat MP Rangsima Rodrasamee was just given the opportunity to pose one question.

Somsak, however, said he stood by his decision to drop the query. In an apparent move to make a compromise, Pheu Thai MP Cholnan Srikaew said the Democrats should file a new motion to query Yingluck, but Jurin said this was impossible because the Opposition did not agree with Somsak's decision to abort the query. Then the Democrats walked out in protest.

Though Somsak's decision has brought an end to the House inquiry into the mysterious Four Seasons meeting, the Office of the Ombudsman is investigating the incident.

And it's very constructive of the government to hide the reasons for Yingluck's "no meeting" "private business meeting" "government related business meeting" ... whatever it was.

The very fact that democrats have to show and look the clowns "ruining" I mean running things is a feat in and of itself astonishing
