3. Party Insurance

Featured Replies

You buy a 2hand car.

1. You buy it locally=same province. Goes to DLT, changes the name in the blue book, Tax still good for another 6 months, so no change of registration or taxsticker. The seller passes on his 3.party insurancepapers to you, still valid another 6 months, Do I have to change to name on the insurance. or does it follow the car ?

2. As above, but from another province, meaning a new registration/numberplate. Same question, does the insurrance cover, with only the chassisnumber correct from the original insurancepapers ?

Thank you.

1. Government insurance is still valid. 3rd party (and above) is usually still valid, as insurance goes with the car not the driver, but some policies can be limited to named driver only so check the paperwork (or phone the insurance company).

2. Insurance with the chassis number is valid, subject to above.

I would not rely on a phone call. You should be able to see your coverage in writing.

"Poraboh" (Goverment Insurance) goes with the car. 3rth partie inurance goes with the car as well. if the former owner not cancel (to get his money back). So there is the problem: How do you know he not gonna cancel it? Be careful: Some insurance ,ilke QBE can be tranfered to another car. The best thing is to make a new insurance in your name. It doesn't cost that much. 3rth partie insurance for cars is only 3'000 bah,. for Pick Up Trucks only 4'000 baht per year. The amount of the money is not worth the risk!
