Red Menace In Udon

Here's a new one:

Picked up two starter sets of golf clubs for the twin nephews. Different sizes/color of sets for different size kids. The color of the correct set for them is a combination of black/white/yellow. When got home wife says we cannot give to nephews because it has yellow in it.

Me: "but this is the correct size."

Wife: "cannot give color yellow. No want fighting people."

Me: "they're children. Who's gonna make fighting?"

Wife: "cannot. Can give color red."

Me: "but the red ones are too big."

Wife: "cannot give. No want problem. Mama think same."

Me: "I think it will be okay."

Wife: "if want to give, up to you. If have problem, I no take care."

Oh well. So much for that idea. Thanks Red Menace, the kids will have to grow into the red ones. Guess there's no 'opt out' clause to being red in Issan.

So you did give it to them in the end right?

Give them the clubs, but maybe include a permanent marker as well, so that they can then make them red, black or pink, whatever will satisfy them. Or even do it prior to giving them the clubs.

As I assume it's only a small amount of yellow on the clubs? as opposed to being completely made out of yellow etc right?

Point is, family is genuinely concerned someone red will make an issue out of it. Ok, fine. Don't want everyone to stress. Will look for something else.

As for the comment about better English, knew some clown would take an off topic dig like that. Guess the point was over his head.

New development. After sleeping on it, MIL feels in light of Yingluck's reconciliation efforts, yellow clubs are ok.

Apparently Thais take this stuff seriously. Whatever keeps the peace.

Well, thats a new one, must be pretty hardcore. I've always been under the impression that its certainly acceptable to have some color but its the obvious solid red or solid yellow shirts that cause difficulty, Sounds like your neighbors need to learn some tolerance and democratic ways (ie everyone is entitled to their own opinion without fear of being assaulted, and that includes carrying kids golf clubs with splashes of yellow on them).
