Spicy Food Prevents Colds?

Featured Replies

I have been assured that eating spicy food, particularly curries pevents the common cold! Is there any truth in this or is it a myth?

I ask as I have a cold at the moment and I eat spicy food most days of the week!

i think its not a myth

spicy food stimulates blood circulation ...more Bl. Cir. makes more matabolism then get energey and heat

spicy food can make u pleasure and enjoy at your mouth .. but u might get a trouble at your @rse .. :o:D

Chillies cause the release of endorphins, a strong natural analgesic and inducer of 'natural highs'. They're high in vitamin C and also have antibacterial properties. Bring on the nam prik kapi! :o

Thank you for your concern, however I never have trouble in that department, not from eating spicy food anyway!

Like Cheech & Chong used to say: "Come on ice cream"! :o

took bloody spicy food today ..get thick lips (obviously lips on my face :D )

if Angelin Jolie saw me, she'd "wai" me and call me"mommy" :o:D

I think its cr@p, I have had a sh1tty cold for about 4 weeks now and eat spicy food every day !

I doubt it. Just like when my wife tells me not to stand in the rain,

-"You'll get a cold!".

-"I don't get colds from standing in the shower..."

I remember reading somewhere that as the Ethiopian national dish contains a few dozen different types of chillis, they have the lowest incidence of strep throat in the world.

"Steven"

if i have a blocked nose and eat something really hot, it makes my nose run which makes breathing a little easier.

i remember reading that theres something in tom yum goong thats supposed to help relieve cold symptoms too, might have been the glangol.

Same as above....My nose pours out during and after eating spicy food... so I would say it could prolly help if you had a blocked nose... :D

totster :o

Methinks then perhaps it was not spicy enough. :o

According to friends, I entertain a lot and often cook them Thai food, they maintain that I make my food spicy and when I do it for just me and my wife I do it even more spicy! I am still full of a cold...

Nice curry for dinner tonight though!

Supposedly eating spicy food makes your nose run and that eventually "flushes" out the cold germs as you use up about 10 rolls of toilet paper/kitchen roll.
