Not Tight Water Trough In Bathroom

Featured Replies

I had a typical Thai brick water-trough put in my bathroom. Only 72x52x83 cm. Now, after filling it, I noticed that at 3 places the water is pushing throug. At all 3 spots, where the mortar was applied between the bricks. I may have to re-seal it ( I don't want 300 liters of water crashing into the bathroom if some weakened spot gives way to the water-pressure eventually).

I am amazed, but so far I have gotten 6 different suggestions how to take care of the problem:

a) Use a sealant, Brand-Name "SIKA".

B) Apply another thin layer of the special waterproofing cement that was used in the first place.

c) Get a spray-can of acrylic-paint and spray two coats.

d) Get someone to put tyles on the inside of the trough.

e) Put a layer of silicon over the moist spots, that's all it takes.

f) As long as there is only a bit of moisture sipping through at those "Mortar-Spots" and these spots stay only moist ant not "wet", you have to do nothing. (Not so sure about that one.)

Is there any wonder that I am somewhat confused ? Anyone out there that could help me out on this one ? If it's doable, I would go with point "c". = uncompicated and fast.

Thanks & cheers.

Me thinks this best but use the correct adhesive and grout.

That's the "splasher" reservoir, yah? Jeez - that's like mortar 101 in LOS. Tear it down and re-build. If you don't care how it looks then slop the inside with a waterproofing whatever.
