I'm a single man (49), divorced, 2 grown up children in the UK. I arrived in Thailand two weeks ago. My employer (a bank) is based in Bangkok, near Wireless Road, but I only need to be in the office 1 or 2 days a week for meetings and customer presentations, so I can work from home most of the time. It's a standard ex-pat package, UK salary, local rent paid (up to 40k Baht per month) and a company car. The company are paying for my hotel for the first month until I find a flat.

Much as I like Bangkok, I was in Pattaya last weekend and decided I'd like to live there. The question is where? I stayed in Naklua which was nice and peaceful, but people tell me that Jomtien is the place to be.

Any advice from Pattaya experts gratefully received.

Cheers.

PS a flat near Walking Street would be a nice idea, but I'm not sure my ticker could stand the pace

Let's try this over in the Pattaya forum.

Topic Moved.

P.S. I'd recommend coming here and renting short term for a bit to check things out. Nothing like living here to really figure out what is going on! If you do, PM me...

If your work is in Bangkok, then I'd advise you look for a place in BKK.

If you are planning to "Live" in or near Pattaya then I'd advise you choose a place away from the night life.

The trap if you are not careful is the nightlife takes over and you loose the job and for that reason it is necessary to separate your life as a working expat from the lives of people on holiday, or who are hear to relax, chill out 24/7.

I have a few friends who work in Bangkok a few days a week that live here in Pattaya. It's best to live on the "Dark Side" as you have really easy access to the freeway. And lots to do there without having to deal with Central Pattaya.
