December 15, 200520 yr All this talk about delays on Air Asia has got me scared. And then I read their FAQ AFTER buying tickets, on which they recommeded travellers leave at least 3 hours between flights. They might have put that in their booking information before I paid for the darn tickets. Am booked on the 8.20am flight from Chiang Mai to Bangkok. It arrives at 9.30am and then we're booked on the 11am flight from Bangkok to Phuket. Can someone put my mind at ease here??? Surely an early morning flight from Chiang Mai won't be delayed, right? I don't much care if the second flight out of Bangkok is, but if the first one gets delayed and we miss the second one (and I've booked tickets for 8 people!) I'll die.
December 15, 200520 yr My experience with Air Asia is they run about an hour late so consistently it is almost as if they design it that way. Had one unusual delay of about 4 hours with them too. I can't speak for that particular route with Air Asia, but Nok has been reliable for me. Just remember to find the shortcut in BKK! There is a domestic transfer door that is very easy to miss. It's a somewhat small, innocuous, closed door on the left near an escalator and has rather lengthy wording written in Thai and english about using it for domestic transfer. Even if you make the connection, your baggage may not. Bring your essentials on carry on.

I'll die. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Cutting it a bit fine there, the checkin desk closes 45 minutes before scheduled take off, and I was delayed longer than on hour out of Penang on what was the return of the first in bound plane of the day from Bkk, although that flight arrived on time when we arrived on it. Air asia is basically quite a bit of a shambles, that no doubt enables them to make money from their own inefficiency, a growing art in all 'new wave value enterprises'. but as 85% of their clients are happy with the value they receive they get away with it.
December 15, 200520 yr I wish I could add some cheering words, but I'd never risk anything but Thai for the CNX-BKK flight with an onward connection (generally BKK-London, in my case). Conversely, always happy to fly with Nok for BKK-CNX - but that's when I don't have a connection to consider.
December 16, 200520 yr Author Guess I'll say a few prayers and suggest everyone only take carry on bags. If we checked one bag through and then realized we wouldn't have time to get it, could I inform the airport staff and then have it kept at the airport until we come back through on our way back to CNX? thanks Coder for the transfer door tip. I'll keep my eyes open for it. Cheers, tt
December 16, 200520 yr My understanding is that Air Asia will not check your bags to their final destination so you will have to wait to collect them and then check in for yuor next flight. Even if there is no delay then you are cutting it pritty fine
December 16, 200520 yr None of the cheapo flights will check bags through. They're all point to point even if your onward connection is with them.
