My 6 year old son's Australian passport ran out on 3rd March 2012. We can only now apply for a new passport (he was missing paperwork) so...he is effectively out of visa, as the visa he has only runs till the end of the validity of the passport and the true length of his visa (July 2012) will only be stamped into a new one, when he receives it. He also has a 90 day report due on the 20th of March.

So my dilemma is do I rush down to Bangkok (can't afford to) and give the application form over or wait till the next time they send a dude up to Chiang Mai? (which they do from time to time) Obviously if there is NO fines for kids his age, then the latter will be better for me as I am working and haven't got a great deal of money. And also since he is never going to get a new passport by the 20th in any event, will it make any difference if he is 7 days late or 2 months late?

P.S I have to go to Bangkok as there is no Australian Consulate here in Chiang Mai to get a passport from. ALSO there is one other alternative (maybe) my husband and I are both English, so our son is entitled to an English passport, we just have never bothered to get him one. So I could apply for one from Chiang Mai (easier, cheaper and probably quicker) BUT will they put the visa into a passport from a different country when it was in an Australian one before? Doubt it but maybe......

Thanks ahead for any help

Stop worrying about it, get a new passport when you can but well before you need to travel. Does you child have second form of ID? No penalty for your sixth year old. I exited once with a child under 8 with 1 year overstay, it just added 10mins more when leaving Thailand at the immigration check point at swampy airport of Thailand.

But I'm curious if his child still needs to do the 90 day report on the set date or after the 7 day grace period would he

be fined the 2000 baht or whatever it is?

I have seen no report of a minor being fined for late 90 day reporting - I suspect it is treated the same as overstay and no fine imposed.

Never thought of that but when my child over stayed by 1 year but we never did 90 day reporting either. I suspect no fines are due but risk of deportation by not reporting if caught before exiting Thailand.

I do not think any risk of arrest and deportation.

Immigration would NOT be that stupid.....

But.......

I agree but I do not know... Only thing I know for sure is nothing is expect the unexpected from immigration.
