i currently hold a non-b visa and work permit but i'm going back to the uk next week for a period of around 6 weeks.

i have been told that i can get a re-entry permit issued at suvarnibhumi airport before my flight departs - does anyone have any idea how long this process takes? my flight is scheduled to leave at 9am, and i plan to be at the airport from around 6. will this leave enough time (i have heard there have been delays with immigration/security lately)?

do i need to provide any documents aside from passport/work permit?

to complicate matters further, i will be getting a new passport issued while i am in the uk. will this cause a lot of hassle when i try to re-enter thailand (as the re-entry permit/visa wont be affixed to the passport i will be using)?

any help would be appreciated.

Exit immigration is reported to be a total mess so would highly advise getting your re-entry permit now rather than trying to get there. Return should not be a problem but you will have to show both passports.

Yes and you just go to your local Immigration office to get one. I believe it is 1000 baht for single and 3,800 for multiple. It only takes a few minutes depending what office you go to.

Not sure where to post this for advice.

My son and his family will arrive in BKK on 31st March from Australia. They will only have the usual 30 Days permit and not a Visa. During their stay we all plan to go to Laos for 2 days traveling from Udon Thani/Nong Kai by land and rentering by land.

I would appreciate advice as to what is the best thing to do, because if I am correct, they will only be granted 15 days entering by land, which will leave them 2-3 days short on their original Permission to stay.

They could get a re-entry permit to keep the original 30 day stay alive but it might be easier and more cost effective to just change the Laos visit dates to within 15 days of departure and use the free entry?

Thanks. Have already suggested they change the dates to fit.

But that means quite a lot of re-organization..

Other option: Apply for double entry tourist visa in OZ. More $ upfront, but no reorganization of plans required.

pay the over stay fine or get a real visa before they leave for thailand.
