salavan
hi i have a i year extension bases on taking care of my thai child i just heard that you now have to have 500,000 baht in the bank instead of 400,000 baht, just wondered if anyone knows about this and if they are aware of any other changes that are now required such as letters from the mother , last year i had to produce a family photo of the 3 of us. interested in hearing from other people with this type of extension. thanks
lopburi3
500k would be using section 2.11 for taking care of child student (any nationality). 400k is still the requirement for section 2.18 (Thai child - custody).
Mario2008
The only immigration office that seems to insist on 500,000 is Phuket. It is not an official change in policy. Rather a local one.
JimmyGreaves
Do you have custody of your child to get this extension of stay and is it sole custody or shared custody. I went to immigration in Hua Hin a few weeks ago and they wanted 400,000 baht in my account. However I did not have custody so was refused :-(

lopburi3
If not married to mother of child there are legal proceedings that will take some time before you will qualify for extension of stay as you must be the legal father and just having your name on birth certificate is not enough. Ask what the requirements are (often will require judgement of court). In the meantime you should be able to obtain single entry non immigrant 90 day entry visa from local Consulate and extend 60 days if needed.
jeancherry
Thanks Lopburi3 I want to stay in thailand for a long time. What do have apply for stay long time. lopburi3
Long stay would require child be legally yours and you meeting financial conditions for one year extensions of stay from immigration - with birth certificate you will likely not obtain more than single entry non immigrant O visas for 90 day stay but may be able to extend each stay 60 days. (5) In the case of a parent, one of parents must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit of not less than 400,000 baht for expenses within a year. In other necessary circumstances, The Immigration Commissioner or Deputy of Immigration Commissioner may approve on case to case basis.
