Lao/thai Border Crossing From Nan

Featured Replies

A few months ago Thai immigration announced that the border crossing between Nan Province (Thailand) and Sayaburi Province (Laos) was open to two-way international traffic. Previously you needed special permission to travel from Thailand to Laos via this crossing. The Lao side had been open much longer, but the Thais held back because of concerns about security, smuggling and illegal immigration, or so I was told.

Has anyone here personally confirmed that the crossing is possible now, without advance permission? I hope to give it a try myself in a couple of weeks.

I do not have first hand experience but I was at the Nan immigration office 3 weeks ago and they seem to say it was open.

You might want to chekc with them as they should know....
