Hi Tariq,

This is a great time to be in Pattaya, even though its not celebrated over there you wouldnt know it. All the girls and bar owners have parties and dress up as Little sexy Santa helpers.

New Year is called in at the Pier End with Fireworks etc but remember it will not be 2006 it will be 2549. We usually see the New Year in at the Atlantic Bar on Soi 3 over the road from "Big C" "Festival centre"

In a nutshell: The fesitve season is certainly there for you!!!! Have a great time.

The Thai year still changes to 2549 on the 1st January though just as we change to 2006.

The Thai New Year is indeed in April but the year changes the same as the west and everywhere else now.

Yes this is correct and has been in Thailand since 1941.

The traditional (old) new year is celebrated usually between the 13th and 15th of April.

So the Thais have 2 bank holidays instead of one :o

Thankyou for backing that up for me !

The other guys are obviously talking about Songkran The (old) New year as correctly stated above. And im sure a lot of people will agree with me that Pattaya is not a good place to be at this time WET WET WET !!!

Operative Thai New Year is celebrated later in the New Year yes 2549 rolls in same as 2006. The point I was trying to get across is that Christmas is celebrated!!

MP5 - Thing is it actually isnt celebrated at all. They only pretend to celebrate it becouse of us. They dont have any bank holiday or anything. If you were to go to Udon Thanni and look for a Christmas tree you would be looking for a bloody long time.

Santa gives Thailand a miss, he might have you thinking he is in Pattaya, but that is becouse they are selling you drinks and by getting into the spirit of it gives them a laugh and sells more. But if you ask them what santa brought then this year they will piss themselves laughing at you

Many of us including Thais understand the true meaning of Christmas and Santa Claus was not hanging out in a manger when JC entered the world.

It doesn't matter where you are in the world if you want to celebrate Christmas and you appreciate why we give gifts so be it.

I think you'll find there are a significant number of Christians in Thailand who believe in certain things and they celebrate.

Me I know why we celebrate it, being a Dad and coming from a large family I just enjoy the whole process.

I think it's important to tell the kids why we have Christmas and I also think it's a great time when friends and family can get together and be honest with each other.

Lot of stress I noticed back home years ago everyone caught up in out doing the year before.

Stress free in LOS.

Merry Christmas and a safe one too

MP5 i don't know how to put this but Santa is dead sorry mate !!!

Another thing for the pot, I guarentee you will not be seeing many Thais at Midnight Mass on Saturday, thats how much they celebrate it.

Trust me the SELL BEER for it that all it is to them, apart from it being a time when they get a bit more money

That aside and knowing i am starting a little war here MERRY MERRY Christmas to one and all

Significant number of Christians!

I think its about 5% among Thai's

Majority of them Chinese-Thai Catholics and the rest brainwashed - oops sorry, converted by missionary's up north and mainly hill tribes.

Oh and the blackmailing evangelists moved into the wake of the tsunami promising goods if people would converts - not very chrisatian like that is it using blackmail when people are at their lowest!

...and then there's Chinese NY, when the country comes to an unofficial grinding halt once more.

btw: I've been to Pattaya NY last year for the first time and been dragged into Soi 8. I love parties and firecrackers, but that was rather like WW III and I hated it. Just much too much...

Hmm

This will be my first New Year in Pattaya

I have been in Bangkok for the last 10 years so this will make a change - before that it as Edniburgh.

Too many firecrackers will be too much for me - I suffered one Loy Kratong when the kids were playing fire at the only farang.

Soi 7 & 8 are normally the worst places for firecrackeers, but there are plenty more places to go.

Don't tell me that!

Next it'll be there is no Easter Bunny and to think I've built a chimmney!

Who does drink the milk and eat the cookies if it's not Santa?

I think you're joking me!

Santa lives for 5 year olds

Keep the Christmas cheer and like I said before have a safe one
