Cathay Pacific Not Moving Back to Don Mueang Airport

BANGKOK: -- Cathay Pacific Airways has affirmed that it will not move its operations back to Don Mueang Airport.

Cathay Pacific marketing manager for Thailand and Myanmar, Yongyuth Lujintanon said this year, the airline will continue its ongoing efforts to provide enhanced services and expand its customer base.

Yongyuth noted that the company has a clear strategic focus and is moving ahead with a number of initiatives that will make the airline stronger and provide a better experience for customers.

For example, the airline will take delivery of 19 new aircraft and introduce a new premium economy class and long-haul economy class seats.

It plans to fit the premium economy class seats onto 48 aircraft by the end of this year and it will have 87 planes retrofitted with new business class seats by the end of next year.

As for an increase in the airline's business cost stemming from rising oil prices, he said the company has adjusted by using fuel hedging to reduce the effects of fuel price volatility on earnings and changing routes and some on-board equipment to control weight.

Yongyuth also commented on the policy of the Transport Ministry and the Airport of Thailand, asking the airline to move its operation back to Don Muang Airport to ease congestion at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

He insisted the airline will continue using Suvarnabhumi Airport as its operating base. It has 66 flights per week flying out of Bangkok. Cathay Pacific reported an annual net profit of 5.5 billion Hong Kong dollars last year.

The company currently has 133 aircraft and 94 more planes will be delivered by 2019. The company's turnover in 2010 increased to 89.52 billion Hong Kong dollars, posting a net profit of 14.05 billion Hong Kong dollars.

I thought our Lord and Mistress only wanted domestic to move back - or has CP started to fly domestically in Thailand (that would shake up the old farts at Thai !)

I thought that it was 'Low Cost' airlines (not just domestic) that were being asked to move.

CX do not fit into either bracket anyway so why was a statement needed?

This is hilarious. Most of the article is nonsense and then right at the end, it touches on the fact that, now, governments AND companies refuse to hear/cooperate with the current Thai administration. Its starting to look like Thailand's secular government could literally stop intermixing with the public and become it's own breakaway forum for drunken, immature, corrupt Thais to hold their catfight seminars. Sure wouldn't change a thing on the ground. I don't know if I've seen the Thai government do ANYTHING of value for Thai society in the last decade. The BTS opened an extension though, so maybe Thailand should elect them to lead the country. They sure as h*ll have added more value that Abhisit/Yingluck/who cares...

Well, I suppose what they told us wasn't true...

Ordered to move there-P.M.    now up to them      Another twist was domestic and low cost. Further on we have Transport authority asking International carriers your welcome at Don M. What a cock-up.  Stupid to me when they are CRYING out for tourists. Imagine your on a flight about to land at Swampy-with relatives waiting, and at the last minute the captain says we have orders now to land at DonM. a new policy 5 mins ago---5555 Ha Ha

If they had the brains to do that, good, look how they are managing their Airline---Look at Thai,   and they are being helped hand and foot and loosing billions in business, and are given priority at Thai Airports-makes you wonder how they would perform if they had good management and not so many hangers on.

Since Cathay is now a Chinese Airline perhaps Thai should be asked to fly into Macau or Guanzhou as the reciprocal arrangement. Have the Thais gone made. They are losing International credibility by the minute.

There still considered a Hong Kong Airline.

Why not move Thai Airways to Don Muang, easy option.

Move Thai ha ha --no way -the only way to stay in business is to operate from swampy, and be protected from Air Asia and company. The government is always trying to give them the monopoly

we want more tourists, but please, don't use our overcrowded airport, 55555555555555555555555555

only in thailand ?

The biggest problem being transfers from domestic to International and vi-ver. so whoever you move to where there is a CONNECTION PROBLEM.   and someone ought to get it sorted. taxis are taxis-buses are buses, and will always get passengers you do not have to cater for them, Direct rapid transport connect ==terminal to terminal.   No matter what permutation this has to apply.  Government-AOT-TAT- GET IT ????????

why would one of the top 5 airlines in the world want to operate out of DM/

They haven't flown out of there since Swampy opened.

Some one needs to get their reporting together

I think Thai should move all operations to Utapao so everyone gets to experience Pattaya

London has two main airports about 50 miles apart, it seems to cause no problems even though the only direct link is a bus service.

THAI do fly to Guangzhou (twice daily) and have done for years.

Cathay Pacific is Hong Kong's flag carrier.

Silly newspaper reports followed by even sillier poster's responses. Just a normal day on Thai Visa.....

This statement is an answer to a nonsense question. And it is part of an alliance, so it must not have the same airport, but even the same terminal...
