Bars Closing?

It's not about lack of booze, in my opinion, it's more about there being nothing to do! And don't tell me to go visit a temple, have a good walk, read a good book or watch TV. I like to go out and enjoy myself! There will also be thousands of benused holidaymakers wandering around WS wondering why nothing is open. Great advert for Pattaya, eh?

You can still drink at home etc.

It's called "respect" however I wouldn't worry too much as noone will give any trouble for farangs drinking on those days I'm sure however I would try to keep it low profile just out of respect..

I am not so sure about not getting into trouble... as you said, it is respect towards the Royal Familiy... and you know which laws you violate if you fail to show respect towards the Royal Family... so if I would be in Thailand during said days, I would keep my alcohol consumption strictly within my own four walls...

That is exactly what I mean. Also a reminder that they are asking that people wear black on these days.

Many of the tourists that will be here won't care about this what so ever and thats fine of course but for us who live here it's always nice to show some respect for the Monarchy and family.

What I really meant was that if the police etc. saw a few farangs gathered at there local bench outside of their local spot like you see at many mini marts etc on the dark side that they would not bother you much and they see most farangs as tourists and don't expect tourists to know or understand what is going on. However if they see people screeming and shouting walking down beach rd. with beers in their hands they might face some sort of a warning etc.

They might or might not arrest the foreign drinkers but will absolutely arrest the cashier who sold it to them.

If you need a drink on those days buy it today when they can legally sell it to you. You can drink on your balcony, in your garden on the beach but don't sit on a chair belonging to a shop or dar, It is asking for trouble.

Apart from any respect for the occasion of a Royal funeral, which we can each choose to relate to or not, is the respect for local laws or rules regardless of how those might appear strange to our way of thinking. Since these are easily circumvented by advance preparation when it comes to having a drink, I can't see any major issue. Restaurants are open, shops are open, beach is still there, attractions are open, arrangements for female company is easy enough ....

Why don't we ALL give our livers a break...It's only 3 days...intheclub.gif

+1 and why don't we show some respect for the Royal Cremation and not rant because Bars have to close because of it !!

Absolutely...After all...We are all here as representatives of our home countries. And a little restraint and respect goes a long way.

Absolutely...All of you that think you NEED a drink over the next 3 or 4 days should have been better boy scouts..."be prepared"...Did I just hit a nerve with some of you...? I will expect the condescending replies from the usual and the guilty...Thanks in advance...Sorry bunch...violin.gif

Anyone who lives here and cant last 3 days without a alcoholic drink has deep problems

Wen you want to show respect, don't drink the 3 days at home either.

Well i rarely drink so that is not a problem for me.Guess there are many alcoholics on this board.Drinking is there crutch.

I can do that with ease, and many days I drink soft drinks only, to help my liver not get worried.

The 3 day closure would be a serious effect of tourists over from Europe and elsewhere on the EASTER BREAK, which is almost the same time

There will be places open with music boose, girls, all the same like the last time it happened 3 or so years ago. I was in BKK then, just arrived from trip home and cabbi told me what was going on in Thailand. He asked if I wanted to go somewhere he knew places, I thanked hima nd let him go. After checking into the hotel I went out to find something by myself, sure enough Nana Liquid was still open with everything as usuall, like nothing happened. You couldn't hear a thing from the Soi, but there were girls hanging out everywhere and and they were pointing folks in the right direction.

Where l come from we toast the deceased and have a general knees up. To old to change the habit. Different nationalities do it in different ways for sure but l wouldn't expect a Thai to do my thing in my country.

If you are a non-Thai in Thailand, you are indeed a guest here. The rules of the host country are the only ones that count, regardless of where you come from and what the rules are over there.

If the bars are offially closed for the 3 days i can go with that, but i am sure the Thai guys siting in the village will be sat there for the 3days having beer as they do every day.

Last buddha day was a Biggie, a friend i had not seen for a few years called and said in XX bar, i went to se him. it was open for a special guest. Sure enough in rolled about 10 land cruisers and a mini bus. All security etc got out, special guest came in champagne flowed the 12 Russian stunners out the mini bus ordered dozens of cocktails. the last car in was a police car with lights flashing, i thought here we go thats it now. But no they checked the area out got back into the car and waited. when the entourage went so did the Highway patrol with light flashing to escort to next illegally open bar.

that escort order must have come from upon high at a cost.

respect is earned not given.

News flash Trans...Unless you were born here and hold a Thai passport...you are, as we ALL are...a guest...I am married to a Thai physics professor and I am STILL a guest...And will always be one...So grab another beer and deal with it.

I suppose l look at it from the true meaning of your word guest. If you had said you are a visitor so do as your told, perhaps l would agree, but to me a guest is some one who is looked after, as in hotel or a party where one is invited. My passport says nothing to any immigration of any country that l should be treated as a guest.. BUT, if you think you are guests, so be it.

As a guest, you follow the host's rules, as they allowed you into their home. As a visitor to a country, you follow the country's rules, as they allowed you into their country. Same difference.
