I haven't yet been there, though I intend to as its just round the corner from my mother -in-law's. The Dutch hon-con Mr. Peter van Loo has something to do with it, as he sent out a bulk email promoting it last month. Worth a try I would think.

Went there last month, here's my impressions from an earlier post:

Tried des Gourmets out last week.

Nice setting, tables inside and out, only strange element was that the gents urinals were on full side-on display (no door or screen).

Owner is a Dutch guy, friendly enough and the staff similarly. He told us that they were focusing on good food at reasonable prices.

Reading the menu was on of those times when you turn it over and you get the feeling there's perhaps a page or 2 missing. Not very inspiring and at an average of Bt300 a main not that "reasonably" priced.

Ordered a selection of mains and they fell into 2 categories, ok but nothing special, and really not good. I have a real thing about wasting food but this was one of the rare occasions when a couple of the dishes just weren't going to get eaten.

Overall a disappointing experience in a restaurant with potential but a somewhat sterile atmosphere (at least on the night we were there).

Maybe it was just teething issues but I will wait to hear more positive feedback before trying it again. In the meantime I will stick with the competition next door at Yummy Pizza for a decent meal and genuine hospitality.

Still on the subject of restaurant's......I checked out the new one on Canal Road (heading out of the city towards Night Safari), the brand new place, raised up in the air on the left hand side. Nice place, nice food. Mainly Thai but the food was prepared nicely. No, I can not be any more specific than that, sorry! Obviously, it is now finished and open and I have nothing to do with it!

Have to disagree with the one post that says he ate there: Food is great. We were there last night. Place was packed. You get a (I would think about) 250 G Ozzy beefsteak for 300B and my wife had a very nice fresh tuna steak for 280. Soups are only 80B and all is made on the spot with real cream and not that fake mixing of flour and milk to make it thick. I personally loved my visit. The Greek consul was there and he loved the Greek salad, if that tells you anything???!

I went to this restaurant 2 times.

As it had just opened, there are a few things for improval, sure.

But i must say, that i did enjoy my meals and also the service !!!

A real opinion should be given after more time after their opening.

I went there 2 weeks ago to try it out, and while being new its still a work in progress the food (tuna steak) was very good and ejoyable ambiance - soft music in outside setting and few cold beers - cool.

I took my family last week and my wife's friend who ate mainly Thai food and they really enjoyed their food as did my kids. I think the food side of Des Gourmet is good already - but naturally for any new restuarant there is room for the place to develop and in time I'd hope it's success as its a welcome addition of the food scene to the south of the City..

I just got back in town and decided to go there for my first dinner out with the wife and friends. I was really suprised to see two groups of friends there that I have not seen in a long time. We decided to sit together and had them put the tables together so we could catch up on things. There were 13 of us in all I think. The food came quickly enough and the food servers were very attentive. I had the Chicken Livers with onions and the wife had Smoked Salmon and a Greek Salad. No complaints here. The rest of the group had nothing but compliments. We even got a round of drinks on the house. How many restaurants do that? Remember, every business goes through growing pains in the beginning. It's nice having another choice of eateries in the area I think. Haven't tried Yummy Pizza yet, but will give that a try next week. Looks quite big inside as well. As for the men's room complaint, I think I just spent too much time in the bar beer centers years ago to worry about shyness. drunk.gif

I agree there is room for improvement...isn't there always? They are open for Songkran which would be very convenient for me not having to go into town and get soaked in the evening. Bar beer center...wow it must be ages ago I went there. Do you remember they had that little place called big bar beer right opposite the bar beer center where they brought drinks in a little boat on the bar? Now THAT was funny!

The Big Bar Beer. Wow, now that was a long time ago. Just to the left of Spotlight if I remember correctly. And to the right of Spotty was Star Nine. It made Star Six look like a Vegas Act. The nastiest place in C.M. Pop's now sits on that spot.
