Oppo Thai Sellers Lying ?

Featured Replies

I went to Central Lad Phrao the other day. They had some event with a music stage and chairs.

It all looked professional, and the band was an ok cover band. They were promoting the mobile phone Oppo. I already had some knowledge about his brand, from gizmodo and engadget.

According to the articles I've read, Oppo is a big brand in its country of origin, China. I read that they were basically trying to mimic Apple and the way they promote and sell iPhone.

The Oppo phone was running a 2.1 something version of Android. It felt like an older piece of equipment, when I tried it out. It looked a bit like they tried to disguise the Android OS, to look a bit like iOS. The camera was mediocre, touch screen ok and it had an older screen tech or at least it seemed, to my knowledge.

The thing that got me, was how the staff were telling us it was a Korean brand and not Chinese, as I've read. Is it Korean ? If yes, then I don't get how come the phone worked and looked like a low tech phone.

I remember reading articles about the Oppo shops in China, how they had long queues like Apple when they launched new products.

I'm fine with someone trying to break in on the competitive phone market. But lying and low tech will only backfire. I also noticed "they" had people strategically placed around the mall sitting on benches pretending to be loyal Oppo users showing off the new phones(shills) or they might have been genuine customer but really doubt it. Don't think many thai's would purchase some unknown phone brand.

Have you guys experienced this ?

I could be made in Korea since according to this Wikepedia article there are several completely independent divisions of Oppo...one based in China, one in Korea, one in Europe, and one in the U.S.

When it comes to phone brands I not sure there is much brand loyality in Thailand as there are a zillion different brands and models being sold...and low price does make a big difference if you are only making 10-20K baht per month and having a shiny cell phone is a hard core requirement for most Thais.

Normal...you don't tell China.

Hydraulic Seals from China are from Taiwan, if they look better than from Germany.

Hydraulic Seals from Turkey are from Germany

.......

Being that most Apple products are made in China, (and Toshiba, Sony, etc.) I am not sure how you could handle something and determine by its feel of quality, or lack there of, if it is, or is not, made in China.

Many items are made in China these days.

It is not the point of origin that matters, rather the quality control in the factory.

started new topic, apologies
