Non Immigrant B Visa Question- Working In Bkk Without Proper Visa

Hi there,

Im currently on a double entry tourist visa and I've found part time work 15 hours a week tutoring students English conversation via a small school in the outer suburbs of Bangkok.

I asked the owner of the school if there was any way she could sort me out a valid work visa and she said it was not possible. She mentioned that maybe I could revert my visa to a Non imm B visa and then there is no problem.

Will this solve my problem of working illegally in bkk? I obviously do not want to work without the proper visa but have no choice at the moment. If anyone can advise if its ok for me to work part time tutoring on a Non Imm B visa it would be much appreciated. Are there any other alternatives for me?

Also, what are my chances of getting caught and what are the consequences of this? Can a fine be paid and continue living here as a tourist or will it result in deportation back to Africa?

Such work without a work permit is illegal on any type of entry so just getting a non immigrant B visa is not going to change that. And yes you could be arrested and deported.

Now if school can obtain employment/work permit then you would be legal - but without you remain in jeopardy. Can you perhaps seek full time employment/work permit somewhere with new school year starting in May?

You must apply with the help of the school for a work permit and receive a WP3 receipt. Only then can you get a Non-B visa, with this receipt and additional paperwork from the school.

As to the risk, every year some schools do get raided by immirgation.

I AGREE 100%. The OP does have a choice and he is chosing to take a chance and be arrested, fined, deportedbanned from entering Thailand again.
