Teacher Wanted

Featured Replies

A well-known girls school in the center of Bangkok is looking for a dedicated, well-mannered teacher to start on January 4th 2006. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who…

…has at least a Bachelor Degree in any field.

…has at least one year teaching experience.

…is well-groomed.

…understands and respects Thai society.

…is a native English speaker.

This is a full-time teaching position with 19 periods (50 – 60 mins each) per week, however, teachers are expected to remain at school from 8 am to 4 pm. Classes are Prathom levels with 17 – 21 students in each class. You will have your own air-conditioned classroom to work from.

Salary 35,000 – 45,000 baht per month

For more details please call 07-812-6818. Resumes/CV’s can be emailed to [email protected]

Please only apply if you will take the job seriously and you enjoy teaching children.

Hmmm

Wonder which school this is.

Why is it well known? is it well known because it is a good school or is it well known because any teacher with common sense goes nowhere near it?

I hope the school is posting this ad, with more specific details, on the Ajarn website (and TEFLAsia).

It sounds very good. Almost too good. What's the turnover rate?

It really is a good school and a great place to work.

It's called Rajini School (The Queen's School) and it's well-known because it's over 100 years old and is not easy for students to get in to.

I taught there for nearly two years and I'm looking for a replacement before I go back to Canada (something's come up at home).

The reason there isn't an ad on Ajarn.com yet is I thought I'd have a better chance of finding a real teacher on this forum. I'd rather not have to sort through all the alcoholics, sex freaks and A-holes that plague the Bangkok expat community. I'm looking for someone who cares about their students' future as much as I do.

If you're interested give me a call...07-812-6818

Righto, there aren't any teachers like that on this forum :o

ah. Err, according to a few stories I have heard last year and this, its not that great a place to work anymore.

Chances are the offered pay will be on the low side of the above range, which for a school downtown requiring full-time hours is VERY low indeed. In any case, it hardly sounds like a "great" job, and if they're looking for a professional with only 1 year's experience they're not exactly looking for a great teacher. Helpful Hint to the Canvasser: you might want to mention what SUBJECT is going to be taught- in the past the default was English, but that's not always the case these days.

*If* the job were definitely 45K, with full work permit, then it would be a reasonable (not great) job for downtown Bangkok.

Don't confuse the job listings on the Ajarn.com web site with the most flamboyant characters on the ajarn-forum. This overall forum has at least two sexpats and alkies, too. Many posters on this thread have spent years at that other forum. My resume is on that Ajarn.com web site. Perhaps you've given us enough information by now (except subject matter), but can't the Thai staff get your replacement by themselves?

What you'll get, if you advertise on the largest Thai teacher's website, is a lot of applicants. Then you, or the Thais at your school, will have to earn your pay and sift out the bad from the good. It's called 'hiring employees,' and Thais aren't as good at it, as you should be.

Good luck. There just aren't many good teaching jobs in Thailand.

It sounds like there isn't anyone interested on this forum. My guess is most of you already have pretty good jobs.

I didn't say it was a great job because it will make you rich - although the pay IS reasonable. The teachers right now are on between 39 and 50 K. It's mainly the staff and students that make it such a nice place to work and to some teachers that's more important.

If it matters to anyone the classes are as follows:

- 6 Prathom 1 classes, 6 prathom 3 classes, and 7 prathom 5 classes.

- the classes for each level are the same lesson, so you're only preparing 3 lessons a week.

- the subject for all classes is English.

The staff at the school have employed some bad teachers over the years and that's why i'm helping out. i think any teacher who cares about his/her students would want to know who is going to replace him/her.

By the way i said AT LEAST 1 year experience - obviously those with more years in the classroom will take priority. Although i bet some of us could look back at ourselves after only a year teaching and say that we were pretty good at, don't you think?

Thanks for the tips, Blondie. :o

After my first year teaching I learned how not to teach!

I still think it's worth asking:  work permit, visa?

if u haven't already got a Non B visa our staff will provide the papers and give you a few days to go to a consulate abroad. after that a work permit can be provided.

BTW - my phone is working
