Russian tourist drowns in Chon Buri

CHON BURI, April 10 -- A Russian tourist drowned Tuesday morning while he was diving off Rin Island (Koh Rin) in the eastern seaside of Chon Buri, according to local police.

The body of Dmitry Klimchenko, 41, was retrieved by a rescue team and transferred for autopsy after he drowned while diving with a group of tourists off Rin Island in Sattahip district, Pol Capt Theetat Darunchan of Sattahip police station said.

Investigators said that Mr Klimchenko’s group chartered a boat in the seaside resort Pattaya before heading to the island for sightseeing and diving. While diving, the Russian man went missing and was found dead later.

Police presumed that Mr Klimchenko felt faint and drowned after drinking alcohol before diving in the sweltering hot weather. (MCOT online news)

Everyone knows that but during my last diving trip in Pattaya, all but one of the instructors were drinking beer on the boat and smoking like hell so go figure...

Very poor on the part of the dive operator. Pretty much anywhere else in the world, he would not have been allowed to dive after drinking. Would be a huge lawsuit in many other places...

There is a possibility that the dive master did not know. They can't be everywhere at once. If this guy was a certified diver then the responsibility is on him.

let us not allow litigation to hinder natural selection please....there are already enough lawsuits i the world..

sad news, but you just can not drink and dive, depending on how deep you go, the alcohol content in your blood can be 4 to 5 times more. 5 beers turns into 25 beers.

Russian Tourist drowns during boat trip to Lin Island off the coast of Sattahip

SATTAHIP:--A Russian man died during a boat trip to Islands off the coast of Sattahip on Tuesday afternoon. The boat had been hired by a group of 11 Russian tourists who were being taken to Lin Island and on the way would be given a tour of the smaller Islands in the vicinity. By the time the group had reached their destination, they had been drinking heavily on the boat. They anchored 500 meters off the coast of Lin Island and Mr. Dmitry Klimchenko aged 41 decided he was going to swim to shore. He jumped in and began to swim but soon got into difficulties and went under the water. He was eventually rescued and CPR was attempted without success. According to his wife, Mrs.Svetlana Klimchenko aged 37, her Husband was suffering from a congenital heart disease and this, in combination with the heavy drinking, is expected to have contributed to his death,
