Old Bangkok Walking Tour

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of organizing a weekly Bangkok walking tour (with indepth historical narration for each site) - exact details are in the making but I just wanted to see your opinion about the following route.

If you wish to add suggestions, please remember that it has to be in the Old part of Bangkok, and the whole walk should not exceed 3 hours.

1. Start at Wat Pho

2. Emerald Buddha

3. City Pillar - then head to Tanao Road

4. Chote Chitr for lunch (BEST THAI FOOD!)

5. Either mango & sticky rice / Thai crepes for dessert on Tanao Road

6. Giant Swing

7. City Hall

8. Thai Ice tea at Mont

9. Democracy Monument

10. Metal Palace

11. Old Bangkok Inn for Bathroom stop and Chocolate Cake

12. Golden Mountain

As you were asked elsewhere

Are you thai and if not how are you going to get around the restrictions on Tour Guides having to be Thai?

I did something similar the other day. It's easily done by one's self and really a guide is not necessary. I'll do a write up soon but in the meantime some of the images can be seen here

I actually thinks its a good idea and marketed properly would have a good take up.

The problem is though, to which I have alluded above, if a Thai thinks you are taking biz away from them (even though you might not even be doing so) they might just drop you in the proverbial poo.

and the whole walk should not exceed 3 hours.

just worry that it must be a rough walking trip .. :o:D

Pub Crawl would be good - hmmm wonder if anyone thought of this before? :o

Technical issues (such as discriminatory foreign job restriction laws) aside, do you have any comments about the actual sites? Or recommendation of other sites?

It has got my attention.

I have some family coming up from Aust. in Jan and need to find ways to occupy them (whilst I am on the golf course, of course).

Good idea mate!

What about china town?

If you can sort out the legal issues then go for it.

They do similar things in the UK, I went on one once and it was fascinating, done by students needing a bit of extra dosh.

He's having a bit of a dream. :o
