arrggghhh...and she never told me that her tooth hurt...they just pulled the mother and now the most beautiful little girl in the world is a snaggle puss...she showed me the extracted tooth and it was a mess, half gone with caries but she never did complain of any pain??? arrgghhh....one never knows in rural asia...I wanna know who is responsible and I'm gonna kill 'em...

so now she shall get the best bridge job available in Thailand to cover the hole in her otherwise brilliant smile...but she's only 9 y.o.; so do we wait until her head is fully formed for the job to happen? she can sustain the ugly pull out job until she's fully formed but I shall not allow tooth decay to disfigure my little girl!!!

she's 9 y.o. now so when would be the best time to think about cosmetic dentistry? I'd say around 15-16 y.o. but that's a long time to wait when she's certainly gonna be concerned about being a snaggle puss before that...

and this brings up an issue; that in rural Thailand no one sees the dentist unless there is an acute condition usually with an extraction involved...regular check ups are unknown and considered to be a waste of money...

my little girl!!!...oh, boo hoo...

And this was not her baby tooth? I suspect it was and a new tooth will shortly be filling in the area. Our 10 year old granddaughter pulled on out last week.

Exactly my thoughts when reading the OP. Surely not even a butcher of a dentist would pull out a healthy adult tooth.

I don't think so as I was around at home when she lost her milk teeth a couple of years ago...maybe you're right, lop...god willin'...

and lucifer the tooth was rotten and needed to come out but I can't believe that she never complained of any pain...but I was not consulted and that pissed me off...

btw the niece appears to like the change in her appearance and doesn't pay me much mind but she hasn't discovered boys yet...and I can then hear her later: (coolly and deadly) 'so you allowed this disfigurement, uncle tutsi?...please describe my present attraction to boys with a snaggle tooth countenance?...'...tutsi (on his knees and whimpering): 'I tried to do what I could my darling...'

Can you not ask her whether this particular tooth had already come out and grown back in? My guess is not and that what was pulled was a "baby tooth" as it would have had to have been in place for some time to have developed as many caries etc as you describe.

Which would also explain why they didn't hesitate to pull it.

yeah...I said 'eek feen ma?' and she didn't seem to know whether it came out before or not...it's one of the canines and I thought that they had all come out already with the front teeth...however, it is true that the tooth was rotten and that the decay would have taken more than 2 years to develop so on that basis we could maybe say that it is a baby tooth...

it was a shock as here she was showing off the gap when I didn't have a clue...her dad who lives in the house must've taken her to the dentist and didn't say anything...maybe he was trying to assert parenthood because as I say SHE'S MY LITTLE GIRL, godammit...

and yeah...the tooth fairy...next time I'll say: 'there's a tooth fairy, yessee and I know her, she hangs around down the market...so you tell me about these things and then the next time maybe she'll visit you...'

Tutsi, I understand you are concerned and I am sorry for this - but I just wanted to say THANK YOU, this thread made me laugh so hard!! especially the linen gown and smile part!! oh my god cheesy.gif

Just to let you know, I was 8-9 years old when my canine was loose and shaky, my mom took me to the neighbour lady who was a dentist, she talked to me really sweetly and was like awww dear come let me see your tooth.... then she grabbed it and RIPPED the dam_n thing right from my mouth with her bare hands right there next to the door!! I was like WHAT THE F!($^*%$£!

Needless to say I have my full set of teeth. I think most likely your niece will too because it was probably a baby tooth. Teeth start falling out at the age of 6 and continue until 11-13 years of age though it varies between person to person. Read this for information to give you peace of mind: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/baby-teeth/AN00355

The link also mentions that canines are one of the last ones to fall out and that teeth fall out in the order in which they erupted (so middle teeth first, going outward) :)

In the unfortunate (and probably unlikely) case that it's not a baby tooth, you will know soon enough. And in that case, please don't get her a bridge until and unless she tells you she wants one. And believe me she will tell you if she wants it. Anyway it would be advisable to wait a few years because her jaw wouldn't be fully formed yet, as you already know.

In the meantime, enjoy the cute gap when she smiles :)

ha! I was present when a little cousin's loose tooth was surreptitiously yanked out by an adult who said: 'c'mere and just let me have a look...'...the baby tooth was ready to fall out but the kid started bawling anyway because he had been tricked!

useful to know about the canines and late falling out...it looks like the case in this instance but the niece is truly proud of the big gap in her smile...I haveta admit that although she was a cute as a button with her tooth she's even more so now with the gap...one gets useta things...

well...looks like a baby tooth and a false alarm...thanks to everyone that contributed...

and lest anyone wonder about a falang and his concern for his little thai niece...we watch cooking shows together on thai tv and remark about the ingredients and preparation...which would quite certainly never happen in another universe...

tutsi returns after 3 months in the saudi wilderness and sez: 'hello my darling baby girl...' and then she sez (now 10-11 y.o. with arms folded and with an attitude): 'get fcuked ye falang bastid...'sad.png

It is caused by inflation and the THB/GBP exchange rates.

Also because the tooth fairy used to come to my son in the UK years ago (he is 34 now) and sort of carried on the traddition.

Thai friends think I am a bit crazy but it gave me the chance to use the less heard phrase

You don't understand, you are not farang.

Take it easy man, i think the dentist pulled out the baby tooth. The half rotten babytooth is better gone than stay since it could mess with the.permanent tooth bud which is being formed under. Dont worry she doesnt have to live with the hole in her mouth forever, the space will be properly replaced with permanent tooth when the time comes.
