Army Chief Denies Tie between PAD and Military

BANGKOK: -- The army chief has denied the report that the People's Alliance for Democracy has asked to stage its next rally at the Thai Army Club.

He asks all sides not to link the armed forces with politics and refuses to comment on former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Army Chief Prayuth Chan-ocha told reporters that the purpose of his trip to the South is to follow up on the armed forces' operation in curbing the violence problem and raise their efficiency.

Prayuth said that even though the number of attacks has decreased, security forces must remain vigilant to prevent future incidents.

About the report that the People's Alliance for Democracy is planning to use the Thai Army Club to stage its next rally, Prayuth said that there has been no report of this.

The group was just advised to use the area in front of the club to organize the activity.

The army chief also asks all sides not to link the military with politics and allow the the armed forces to perform their duties.

He added that the army's standpoint is to be strong for the people.

Prayuth also denied to comment on former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's plan to return to Thailand, reiterating that this issue has nothing to do with him and he does not want to make any speculation.

Well,of course, why not, it sends no political message at all. It's far more convenient than a public park, like Lumpini for example. whistling.gif

Well it would give the red shirts pause to think about starting a fight right in front of the army if they attack the PAD rally, as they have done in the past. All this was predictable as the charter change hits the kangaroo legislature controlled by Thaksin Inc.

I'm sure the people of Thailand would like the military to not be involved in politics, but it's a bit late now. This statement is equivalent to "please pretend that black is white".

Anybody know exactly what are their duties?

It is the easiest thing in the world nowadays especially with all the "social media" to start a rumour.

It is also the hardest thing to disprove.

Example

There will be a coup says a rumour.

The military says no there won't.

Who is right?

How can you accept something like that?

How can you deny something like that?

Evil neighbours are planning invasions as we speak.

To be fair the blue shirts wouldn't have so far to go this time, they could come straight out of the club.
