Wow, this family is right up there with..................?????????????? Sorry but I cannot think of another family to compare to this one. Any suggestions ?

Marcos, Peron, and I forget a lot of others, Berlustconi, no it was not his family, only his bunga-bunga girls.

The sheer audacity and boldfaced shamelessness of this family is beyond compare. Such unbelievable contempt for the foundations of a decent society. The Shinawatra's have to be among the most cynical, insidious, parasitic families in the entire world. They ought to be held up for the world to see so that others can observe the Shinawatra orgy of general malfeasance and learn how NOT to behave.

It really runs in the genes, doesn't it?

Why wouldn't she declare that debt? The motive must be very interesting...

You really couldn't make this family up in the worst trashy novel. Greed, deception, power, corruption... and all before breakfast. Maybe it is in the Chinese genes that they can never have enough money and their Thainess means they have an inate difficulty in separating lies and the truth.

On second thoughts, what about a Thai mini-series or would that be banned too?

In Chinnicha's argument to the Supreme Court, she said she thought she did not have declare the debt because the assets had been ordered seized by the Assets Examination Committee.

Honest mistakes run in the family.

How many of the family have been banned now?

This is a strange case with a stranger ruling by the court. The facts appear to be that all parties on the prosecution's side had access to precise information as to the status of the subject Bt100 Million yet chose not to avail themselves of the information until a senator of the opposition raised the issue. It seems to me that the defendant was never in a position to conceal the Bt100 million because it was part of a requested penalty documented by the sequesters in their application to the court for the sequestration of Bt46.1 billion. Looks just like another member of the opposition is scoring points off the minions connected to former Prime Minister Thaksin's family. This does not bode well in our quest for reconciliation and forgiveness for all involved on the military side and political side in damaging Thailand so much at the vent of their political whim. Further it would appear that the court 'smelt a rat' as is indicated by the leniency of their judgement in the matter.

You'd think they would have learned by now. Nothing but contempt for the rule of law.

They have learned, for sure....What do you think how much they can put in their pocket while you are writing that.

What you think how many other cases could be avoided by some tea money in the last 6 month.

Well, I doubt anyone in the Shinawatra household is falling over too worried that a niece got hoofed out. However, as I wrote earlier, how can a person be still indebted to someone if the money they lent you was illegally gained?

Someone steals 100 baht from someones pocket, that someone lends me the money, the law comes along, nabs the thief and I return/have impounded my 100 baht. How on earth can I legally still owe the "someone/thief" 100 baht?

That is all semantics, but still as far as I can see a very odd legal interpretation.

She had it at the time she was running and elected and didn't DECLARE it.

Debts can be used to leverage a politician into doing an action by the debt holder.

So they must be declared.

She could lose the whole thing next day, but she STILL failed to file a proper declaration.

End of story.

Well then it is all extremely typical. It would be lovely to know if it shows up on anyone's tax return?????

As long as they get people for neglecting to fill out papers properly, (and the value is a mere 3MN USD), without any further criminal proceedings, it adds to the idea that this is all politically motivated. Still don't see if the assets have been sequestered by the state for wrongdoing on Bannaphots part, how she can still owe Bannaphot any money.

X drug dealer lends me money, said money is confiscated by law as being illegally obtained, and yet I still owe a thief his ill gotten gain? If he had sold me a TV, and the coppers took the TV off me, how can I owe the thief a TV?

Senator Ruangkrai is not "a senator of the opposition" and is also not a "member of the opposition".

Marcos was more ruthless, but that didn't really kick off until he was into his 12th year or so of rule (coincidentally, that's sort of where Thailand may very well have been today if Thaksin had not been removed in his nearly 6th year).

I would suggest that the Shinawatras get some better legal advice in future. Seems that no one knows even how to fill out a simple form

In tonight's theme of banning.

Thaksin's main legal adviser, Noppadon, is also banned from politics in his own right.

Would it have all been equal if she had stated the debt as pending "further investigation and political developments".

I borrow money from someone who is subsequently found guilty of having obtained the money in a dodgy manner, and have money seized from me, but legally I still owe the money back to him?

Now if I had colluded to hide his assets surely that is just blatant fraud isn't it?

Doesn't matter, when the reconciliation bill passes she can stick her nose right back in the trough. Precisely why I don't understand why the government can't see where this is going. Surely even they don't want to see a total disregard for rule of law.

Her snout is well and truely deep in the trough already by proxy

"The court initially sentenced Chinnicha to two months in jail but suspended the jail term for a year on the grounds that she has never been in prison. She was also fined Bt4,000"

By the same logic, I can commit at least one crime and just get a slap on the wrist and a meaningless fine. Right, I'm off to rob a bank, who's with me?!?!

So you want to

fail... to declare ... a debt worth Bt100 million upon assuming position as a Pheu Thai MP.

or

rob a bank

Not the same at all.....

Becoming a PTP MP is a much more lucrative crime.

Lawyer's specialise. Noppadom's field appears to be telling lies and bribery; though he's second rate at both.

BS,it took you a while to twist that around, all in the name of reconciliation.Criminal acts can't be simply over looked, where is the deterrent in that.
