Storing Important Documents

Featured Replies

Is there anywhere in Chiang Mai that is reliable for keeping your passport/docs etc while staying there long-term ?

If "long-term" means living here, I advise buying a safe. Several years ago I bought a small but sturdy safe, I think it was about 8000 baht. It doesn't make the contents theft-proof; in fact a strong man can pick the safe up and slowly walk away with it. But it makes these 'valuables' (mostly passport and other documents) more trouble to steal than they're worth. It gives me peace of mind and my documents are here when I need them.

Of course if your "passport/docs etc" includes Rolex watches, expensive jewelry, and thousands of dollars/Euros/pounds, you should probably spend more than 8000 baht.

I'm looking more for a 3rd party place that is trustworthy than storing at home. Thanks.

If you have a bank account in Thailand, than I advise renting a strong box in the bank.

About 600 baht a year, but well worth the price for peace of mind.

Visit your bank branch and inquire for details.

Thanks Beetlejuice. Sounds perfect.

I've had mine at Bangkok Bank KSK since 1994 and it's a good thing to have.

However, I seem to recall a thread not too long ago saying that there was hardly any availability of bank boxes......though it doesn't hurt to try different branches of banks.

If no luck, definitely get a the best safe you can afford........not necessarily for Rolex's (they should be on the wrist), but important documents that can't be replaced.

I've been on the waiting list for 2 years at my branch of Kasikorn Bank - C.M. main branch on Chang Klan. I went to the Meechok branch of Kasikorn Bank the day they opened their doors for business and was told they were full!

Chok dee.
