Indonesia: Two Muslim teachers arrested for abusing 8-year-old boy 2012-04-26 08:19:37 GMT+7 (ICT) MAKASSAR, INDONESIA (BNO NEWS) -- Two Muslim teachers were arrested by Indonesian police on Wednesday for allegedly sexually abusing a young boy on the island of Sulawesi, local media reported. The two suspects, identified only as A. J. and A. H., who teach Koran recitals, were allegedly caught by a local resident in the Gowa district of South Sulawesi when they removed the trousers of an 8-year-old boy on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred in a room on the second floor of a local mosque. However, instead of notifying the authorities of the incident, residents gathered and waited until around 2 a.m. local time before storming into the mosque in order to carry out mob justice. The two suspects were able to flee until reaching a police station where they were later taken into protective custody before being transferred to the Gowa Police headquarters. Police spokesman Adjutant Commander Andry Lilikay told the Jakarta Globe that the suspects confessed to having sodomized the minor boy at least six times, convincing him to comply for Rp 10,000 ($1.09). The suspects are facing a minimum prison term of 15 years as Andry said they would be charged under the Criminal Code and the 2002 Law on Child Protection. Earlier this month, on April 12, another Muslim teacher was arrested in the Bulukumba district of South Sulawesi after he allegedly molested a female student at a state junior high school. tvn.png

Let's just say Indonesia is 88% Muslim so probability would dictate the criminals were Muslim, aside from that they were supposed to be teaching Koran recitals, which is a bit of a giveaway. P.S Why have a thrombosis about Muslims being mentioned, we know of unfortunate similar incidents with Catholic priests, yet mentioning these does not result in people automatically concluding all Catholics are no good.

Very sick people and glad they got caught.

However the first thing sprang to my mind was why is this world news on thaivisa and why is muslim mentioned in the headline rather than Indonesian teachers.

These crimes happen all over the world everday. Why target muslims?

It happened inside a mosque, that's news worthy. Nobody is targeting anybody, and writing that Indonesians raped a boy in a mosque is misleading without mentioning Islam and can cause Muslims elsewhere to assume the child rapists were of another religion and ... well you can fill in the blanks.

Quite right, a few rotten apples should mean that you don't condemn an entire slice of humanity, whether the perpetrators be Catholic priests or Muslim teachers.

Lets get over this PC thing where you cannot call a spade a spade - they were pedophiles teaching the Koran in a Mosque, what more do we need to identify them as Muslim teachers? Community justice would have sorted out the problem on the spot, now at considerable expense it has to drag through the courts. Somewhat like how in the West we have handed all our community functions and sorting out our kids to the bureaucracy, lots of paper stamped sure, lots of bureaucrats employed, lots of taxes wasted but nothing useful ever achieved as our community structures crumble, society is always to blame...Form 205.

It goes to show that muslims are just like everyone else. Instead of taking this as a negative, it goes to show that man is capable of evil no matter what religion or ethnicity. I for one find it refreshing to know the incident was not covered up. It is good that this has come out. Maybe someone somewhere that finds out about the incident and knows of similiar activity will be encouraged to speak up.

Actually, honest reporting is not just desirable, it is crucial as it acts as an early warning system and pressure release valve for society. The Catholic church in Ireland tried to cover up sexual abuse of children for many years, and may have continued to do so had news reports caused more people to speak up. In this case, though I disapprove of vigilantism, it at least demonstrates people's values in the vicinity were inflamed by the abuse and it was not condoned nor hushed up.

"Even" muslims have a sense of decency. All societies have their share of scum and criminals. The vast majority of people of whatever race, religion or ethnicity are decent people trying to do the best for their families and themselves. Nothing too startling in that comment.

How sad. The crowd waits, knowing that a young boy is being molested, instead of trying to rescue him.

It would seem the priorities are very, very wrong.

Obviously not the case......the kid was probably removed immediately.
