April 28, 201214 yr Hi, I have an Acer A500 Android tablet I purchased in North America before heading to Asia. Is there a way I can proxy to North America to get my Ice Cream Sandwich update? Thanks!
April 29, 201214 yr More of a question concerning Internet, rather than Android. Moved to that forum.
April 29, 201214 yr Have you tried to just update it? Do you get any errors when you do? Search android store for open vpn or a similar app.
April 29, 201214 yr I have an ARCHOS 80G9 Android tablet bought in the US and was able to access the ICS upgrade in Thailand. Unfortunately, it did not go smoothly; although the ICS upgrade for Archos was released in late March, there are ongoing issues with incompatibility with various routers and problems with GPS. I was able to work through the bugs with the help of internet forums focusing on Android and Archos. I don't know if Acers are having the same difficulties but I'd suggest checking the forums before upgrading. http://androidforums.com/
May 20, 201214 yr http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1624908&highlight=ics Unless you are having some issues which you think are fixed with 4.0.x, or need some feature(s), then I would recommend sticking with 3.x and let others work through the kinks. I've used both 3.x and 4.0.x on a tablet and actually prefer 3.x. If you want to wait for the official OTA release from Acer U.S.A. then there should be many ways to obtain this with the use of a VPN, tunnel or proxy. In theory, Acer should identify your unit as a U,S version and allow an OTA update from any IP address. I mean people do travel with these things.

I returned my ARCHOS 80G9 to 3.x from ICS after continuing problems with wi-fi connectivity that were making me nuts. This is an issue with Archos, not necessarily other brands but I will again suggest you check ACER forums before upgrading. It looks like it will take a while for these issues to be worked out. I agree with Lomatopo that 3.x works just fine.

Sorry, that should say "...there should be many ways to obtain this without the use of a VPN, tunnel or proxy."

Yeah I am undecided about this. on one hand I want ICS, on the other I have been following people's posts on the problems they are having and am a little wary of it. Much of the reason I want ICS. Is to prevent lag when entering text in the browser.
May 21, 201214 yr Much of the reason I want ICS. Is to prevent lag when entering text in the browser. Can you try a different input method? Choose a different keyboard, or download one of the many fee ones from the Market? There may be other solutions as well, so maybe no need to go "nuclear"?
