Hi guys, I would be going over to Thailand in late May and would be staying for 18 days. I planned to drive/tour around Thailand and would probably start the journey from Pattaya, passes by Sisaket, all the way to Chiangmai and back to Pattaya. Hence, I would like some ideas and recommendations for accommodation and places of visits along the way.

I am very easy and open to ideas, as this is a road trip to explore more of Thailand. Feel free to share if you have any must stay resort/hotel or must visit place.

Alright, I'd done a little research and these are resorts/places of visit that I have in mind at this moment:

Resorts:

1. Suan Muang Porn ( Agro & Ecotourism )

204/44 M.1 Mittraphap Rd., Klongphai , Sikiew , Nakhorn Ratchasima 30340 Thailand.

On yes, 1 other place that I would like to visit is Chantaburi, which is near to Pattaya. Heard there is a hot spring or something similar.

As yes, as I will be driving my missus's mom vehicle, I am wondering whether it is advisable to install a NGV tank for her pick-up before embarking on the trip, so that I could save some money on the gas. I know the installation would cost roughly over 20k baht. I am thinking if the cost saved during the trip is substantial, maybe half as compared to using petrol of gasohol, maybe I can considered installing a NGV tank. Furthermore, the tank will be there for future usage and saving. I need advice.

Geez, I can't seem to edit my post after certain time limit.

18 days isn’t really a long time. I’d reckon if you’re planning to visit Sisaket, drive to Ubon Ratchathani, and take an Air Asia plane to Chiang Mai. Ubon’s only 65 km away from Sisaket.

A good trip I’d just made with my family was to Pai/Mae Hong Son province. I can reckon the Baan Tawan resort, they’ve got a website.

You could also book a flight from Ubon R. to Chiang Mai and back to Phuket, spent some days in Phang Nga, for example Bang Sak and travel back by bus or train to Bangkok.

Please check on Air Asia’s website, you might find a very good deal.

So you could see a lot on your holiday without wasting too much time sitting on busses, or trains.wai.gif

Thanks Sir.

Just looked up the resort that you mentioned. Looks good, I will definitely pay the resort a visit if I do stop over at Nong Khai.

Pai/Mae Hong Son are also 2 places that I would be visiting. I am dropping the idea of flying around, as I would probably stopover wherever I like.

The owner of the resort in Pai is really cool. Her name's "Pat". Just tell her that you know me ( Mike) and you'll have a nice bungalow at the Pai river for a reasonable price. It isn't high season now. You can rent a Motocross bike from her brother, if you'd like to.. Free Wifi and more.

Guess we all live only once.......

Enjoy your trip......wai.gif

Thanks Mike!

I think I made a mistake in my earlier search. Earlier, I mentioned about Nong Khai, as the search for the term "Baan Tawan Resort" brought up the result of a Baan Tawan Resort in Nong Khai. I thought you were referring to this resort in Nong Khai and was a little confused when you mentioned about your trip in MHS/Pai.

Luckily, I went to search again, and this time, I got it correctly. It should be Baan Tawan Pai.

Anyway, thanks a lot Mike!

Meanwhile, hope I got more recommendation coming in!

If you're heading up to Chiang Mai on Highway 1, Ayutthaya is an obvious one. The old capital north of Bangkok and world heritage site.

If you're going via Sisaket then presumably Udon then you might take Highway 12, which goes through some spectacular mountain scenery and Sukhothai is a slight diversion on the way. The capital before Ayutthaya. Not as many ruins or attractions though.

Obviously, if you're not interested in history, then ignore this.

i like historical site!

i gotta check where is Highway 1 before planning my visit.

BTW, is it Ubon or Udon that you are talking about?

Ubon is near to Sisaket, should not have any problem passing by the area.

Anyway, is there any mountain resort, where the weather is cooling?

I know there is 1 at Korat and I will definitely be going there. Is there any others that is on the North-Eastern and Norther side? Anyone know about Loei province?

Thanks!

Phitsanalok and Sukothai. Sukothai as mentioned before is an older capital. A quiet place but very beautiful. Walk around or rent a bike for the day. I found it very relaxing. Phit has some small town charm. Maybe detour to Khorat.

Check out website: chimburi.com. Lists hundreds of Thai Temples. Some are my list of places to see both for the temples and the surrounding areas.

If you do like the ancient historical sites, there is a little-visited one between Sukhothai and Chiang Mai called Sri Sachanalai, IMO one of the most beautiful of the old temple complexes. Do a search for it and check it out.

You could stop there on your way to Chiang Mai easily if you're interested, with a bit of planning.
