Irish Stew

I visited a well known irish theme bar in Hua Hin the other evening, not my first visit, the previous occasions ok.However feeling peckish i decided to order a meal,no fish and chips,ah well,no problem,so i ordered what i thought would be a safe bet,it has to be IRISH STEW!Well it was not good, mashed potatoes and shreaded carrots, didnt find the meat?I did ask to see the manager and was told he was not there,i replied sorry but i do not want this meal,as it was not in any way close to irish stew,ah sorry came the reply from the waiter it is a new cook,i said ok,please deduct the cost from the bill as i will not be eating.

Only 2 mins later, a thai thug(manager?) in attire not in keeping with the general surroundings told me to pay up and get out and not come back? This was 7.30 in the evening and no i had not been drinking!I was polite in conversation, never said a bad word!Anybody with similar experiences?

Not good, for you or for them.

Perhaps wait until the boss is there and relate it to him.

Either he gives you back money or credit or he doesn't.

If he does then he's made a customer, if he doesn't he's lost one who will tell his friends.

If I expected to get Western meals anything like the ones I got at home here in Thailand, I would be demanding my money back everywhere I went.

IF I get something enjoyable, I go back, if not, well, mi phen rai.

TIT! :o

That's right!

You want some dough-filled plate of greasy western food?

Best stay at home... :D

Irish Stew is primarily a slow cooked casserole made with mutton and root vegetables.

Not some dough-filled plate of greasy western food

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with the food you ordered. I have frequented said establishment on a number of occasions and have never had cause to complain. I'm sure had the manager been there it would have been sorted.

I'd echo these thoughts, having been in both the Cha Am and HH establishments in question. Seems like a one-off and I'll bet the moment the boss(s) get wind of this the offending manager will get a good dressing down or the boot.

Never ceases to amaze me how ppl anonomously slag off otherwise hardworking businesses on public forums, based on a one-off experience. This can be very damaging and should be limited to a very last resort imho :o

I stand corrected. :D

In Monterrey, Mexico, in 1985, I didn't expect the food at Pizza Hut to resemble the Italian-American food I grew up on in the western suburbs of Chicago. I don't expect local people to cook non-native food properly.

Granted, at least in theory and much of the time in practice, we don't expect an Irish pub in Hua Hin to cook like Thais cook, but if the boss is gone and there's a new cook, he may only know how to cook tom yung goo, or cow-pat guy.

Restaurants that serve 'farang food' here do a reasonable job of making it taste like home, often you just can't get the same ingredients here, so they have to substitute local stuff. Sometimes the result is an insult, sometimes it's pretty good, overall they don't do bad IMO.

Hardly the case was it ? The OP complained about the food not containing meat, imagine serving up Tom Yang Kung minus the Prawns to a local ? And the Chef/whatever slung him out and told him not to return!

Would you keep that to yourself or create about it?

Missed my point Chon- I said: "Never ceases to amaze me how ppl anonomously slag off otherwise hardworking businesses on public forums, based on a one-off experience"

Sure, it's unacceptable but if this happened more than once, I'd say fair play. I don't know the owners (met them briefly twice) but I can vouch the place usually has great grub n grog as well as decent service.

Any biz you visit has their not so good moments and a few downright awfull ones, from mom n pop outfits to 5 star hotels. However, if it's a one-off (a once in a blue moon thing) one has to take it into consideration before condemning a place is all I'm saying :D

Well if I had the experience that the OP had, I wouldn't want to go back and give them a 2nd chance - sounds as though he'd be putting himself at risk if he did. I hope that some of you that know the place mention the OP to the owner? He might want to make contact with the OP to make amends.

If I hear of that, I might be tempted when I'm there again, but as I'm generally allergic to faux Irish pubs in the UK, the thought of stepping through the door of one in Thailand (when on holiday), doesn't have much appeal. I'm not a fan of London Porter ale in any case.

I thought the OP was fair comment.

I have eaten in the same pub a few times and drank there often, the food has been generally good and the service excellent. Most of the waitors / waitresses are educated to Tertiary level.

The good service is the main reason I go back.

Never seen the referred to thug in there - but then again I have never seen any problems there either.

If it bothers you so much go back when the boss is there - he would certainly listen and be understanding.

Odd first post - not the owner are you?

"If it bothers him so much"!!!! Are you serious? Like, you'd just brush it off and laugh about it? Thrown out for having the right as a customer to point out that perhaps there was something lacking in the food. Get real!

Its not for the OP to sort out, thats a mangement job. Like I said earlier, I'd like to read the management went out of their way to contact the OP.

But then, maybe they don't need to worry about the odd complaint?

How many times does a customer have to put up with a bad meal or service at a restaurant.

Once bitten , twice shy.

I would never go back and I would do exactly as the OP has done..... List them!

Yeah you sussed me !!

I am not the owner just a satisfied customer. I do know the owner, not well - and the situation would not have arisen if he had been there.

Why do you assume that I am involved wirth the establishment just because I didn't jump on the bandwagon and slag the place off. I was trying to say that the place is normally run well and this sort of thing is an anomaly.

I still find it very hard to believe the story about the so called thug.

I have been in plenty of restaurants all over Thailand and been disastisfied - I normally then vote by my feet and don't return.

Was this a strange 2nd post aswell ?????

Hmm. Just noticed the OP was a newbie as well and hasn't come back! And Ajarns later post makes me think that I'll ignore these in future. Who knows the motive of the original OP. At least Ajarn has replied to the replies made to his post, including mine. :o
