What is the best thing to do look before i go or look when i reach bangkok?

Thailand has a walk in society, so your best bet is to draw up a list of every Thai company in the area you want to live and walk into each one and ask. You will find that they will expect a gift as well, like a bottle of Johnny Walker, so make sure you take one with you to each firm you visit.

The previous posts have me laughing, but there is a grain of truth in them i.e. very difficult for a foreigner to get a job and the salaries are peanuts (e.g. could be 10% or less of your salary back home).

Then you have work permit issues - MOST jobs are restricted and you will NEVER be allowed to do them i.e. it is illegal for you to work here.

There are a few exceptions e.g. you are a super expert that has worked in international companies at a senior level etc for a decade or much longer. In this case you should be OK.

And to be really honest, MANY westerners who come here, after a few years get fed up with things e.g. the racism in this country (many don't like westerners), xenophobia, the immigration laws that make us feel like prisoners/slaves with no legal and human rights, the crime etc.

If you want to be happy and live peacefully, try other civilized countries in ASEAN. This place is OK as a holiday stop, full stop.

Kidding? There are more countries arround the world where foreigners are welcome. First investigate and then decide. If you decide for Thailand, don't forget to buy a return ticket.

You say that you are "moving over to thailand in 3 months". I'm curious; What kind of visa are you entering Thailand with?

"What are the chances of finding work there?" What is your education level and in what field? What sort of employment skills do you have?

That must be me then as I just rocked up on holiday and started work a couple of days later and never had any problems finding work and at salaries greater than back home or where I was previously in Saudi.

Depends what you do though OP. I'm in construction and arrived in 1994 in the midst of a boom.

You really should do some research first. Comments above are mostly from retirees that have never bothered looking for work. Yes it is harder to find a job here than in the UK but I and many of my friends have worked in Thailand many years. Teaching is very popular, if you are interested then maybe study TEFL befor you get here, best if you hold a degree but it isnt law to have a degree to teach as so many people believe. Telesales is another area, many UK companies have set up businesses in BKK, you have work permit and reasonble salary. Programming is another area for Expats. Chefs, hospitality such as FO Manager et, there are opportunities if you spend time searching, once you are here networking is a great way to find what is available. Good luck and dont be too put off by the negative comments from the failures that have already replied, just because they cant, dosnt mean you cant.

Google is your friend. Do some research. I don't think anyone can possibly answer your question without knowing any of your background information.

Ask yourself the question, "What do YOU want to do in Thailand?" - What's the point in moving out here for no purpose at all? Unless you're just coming here for some cheap pussy, in that case... *sighs* do what everyone else does. Get rinsed dry and then bugger off back home once you're broke.

Can you dance? Can you find your way up and down a pole? Then a position in a go-go bar is a possibility. All I see at these places are sexy young Thai females slinking about, which does start to wear on one night in night out.

On the other hand, a tubby farang - it would help if you were tubby - in his skivvies mingling amicably with the lasses on stage and doing a turn now and then on the pole would be a sight for sore eyes. And I can only imagine the kind of (non-taxable) income you could hustle by way of tips and farang's drinks (I guess they would call it farang's drinks).

Honestly, I have not yet seen farang activity on stage yet at either Nana or Soi Cowboy but then this may be because the owners, not the brightest people on the planet, have simply not thought of the attraction. If you upload a video of yourself making the moves at a club in farangland then I might certainly talk to a few that I know and get back to you.

Sounds like another guy a bit fed up at home and has made a quick decision. My advice, if your thinking of moving here in 3 months then take another 3 to work things out and see if the dream persists.

If youre not retirement age then you need a very good reason to come out here to work and live. Hanging out at Fitness First gym or bar whoring are definitely not two of them. If youre not highly skilled then career ops are limited mainly to school teaching or even TV work.

'

The % of farangs who fall over here is significant. Visit Thailand and go to Pattaya and you will see farang 'burn outs' everywhere.

I think thailand is alot like anywhere.... what ever you do stay away from negativity from others who might have a narrow view on everything...

lots of people do very well where ever they choose to go. Some people don't, I am not saying I am on either side but one thing is for sure if you go and get all set up there and get a happy life watch out for those that might want to drag you down.

There is also a general feeling of thailand being invaded, so other farang I think do as much as they can to try to stop newcomers.
