i am a EU citizen ,been comin on and off to thailand several years now.lately the situation with visas is making thailand a nearly impossible place where to be.it is ridicolous to get 15 days visa stamp at borders.a few years ago most passports got 90 days on arrival/and border .as malaysia and other countries in the region still do.i know of a very high number of people leaving thailand to other neighbourin countries.why to deal with so unconforable ''visa rules''?? are they looking at numbers? there is also this rule of ''leaving the country'' to renew or apply for visas..what is that?why not to be able to apply/report at a nearest checkpoint?dont they see is ridicolous makin people cross the border for a few minutes and that is forced to leave usually keep travelling and do not come back.again are they looking at numbers?.pushing people cross the border they lose probably millions/ bath on alcohol sigarettes and whatever u may find at the usual 'border market'!!i guess visa runs also promote illegal traffic of drugs etc...!

another very good point is:visa runs can be deadly!! how many of u at least once were involved in or just avoided a road accident.i was personally involved (and hurt) in a bus crash last year were 5 people lost their life! that was 3 english boys ,a korean girl and a thai driver.

said this wouldnt be time to gather a few (tens?) thousands signatures and expose this to the immigration authorities?? thailand used to be a very welcoming place but shame ..is not such anymore

It's their country and they can make whatever immigration rules they wish.

I imagine that if all the visa runners living in Thailand threatened to move elsewhere unless these rules were relaxed in their favour that the official reaction would be 'good riddance!'

Of course if you had the correct type of visa, e.g. marriage, retirement, work, then you wouldn't need to make visa runs; which are really only a way round the rules for those who don't qualify for an actual long term visa to live in Thailand.

It's certainly a lot easier for you, an EU citizen, to live in Thailand than it is for a Thai citizen to obtain the necessary visas to visit, let alone live in, an EU country. Maybe it's time for the Thais to place the same immigration restrictions and requirements on EU and other Western citizens as EU and other Western states do on Thai citizens!

As this thread is not only wrong (Thai visa exempt used to be 14 days not 90), appears to be trolling (promotes illegal drug trade) and in violation of forum rule29 it is closed.
