Hello,

I'll have to extend my work permit this week. I've got:

1. A form for extension from labor dep.

2. A letter of employment, which has to be filled out by the school.

3. A list of how many employees the school's got.

4. Waiver letter still good until next year around Sept.

I don't want to make the way twice, or more as I'm not living in the province I'm working.

Do I need a health certificate etc? Any posts would be deeply appreciated.

Thank you

Sorry, forgot something very important:

5. A contract in Thai and English.

6. Copies of passport and work permit.

Have you changed schools and provincial labour offices?

No, still at the same school....wai.gif

Have the school call the labour office to find out what they require.

I always provide a health certificate and next to the letter from the school you might also need a letter from the Education Service Area Office, depending on the kind of school, as well as the contract and maybe teaching schedule.

Thanks a lot! I do understand that not all labor departments require the same documents....wai.gif

Yes you need a medical certificate and a syphilis test. The hospital will draw a small amount of blood and the results are back in about an hour or so.

This previously wasn't a requirement for renewal, but it is now. It's the first physical I've had to have in 15 years.

Did my WP and visa renewal/extension today and no medical tests needed at all. I also used a TCT waiver letter dated May 2552 (2009) as the most recent one couldn't be found, nobody blinked an eye! A friend who works at a school a few kms out of town also did his recently and he has no degree or culture course certificate and no problem either. Some Filipino teachers I know also did theirs in the last few weeks and none were asked for their TOEIC score to be included in their application papers.

Gotta love this country....

I drove to Immmigration, took a long time, but got visa extended for a year.

They wanted to see degree, transcripts, letter of employment, contract, Kurusapa letter, marriage certificate?, copies of almost all I had with me........( didn't give them the names of my face book friends, as this can kill people!)

The guy next to me was sent back, because the size of his photo wasn't right. ( Guess a lot of Tattoos wasn't cool at all)......

Had my medical from a private hospital, showing them what labor wanted to see. Paid 30 baht, just to find out that my syphilis test was missing, plus a "Power of Attorney" signed by the Poo Oo. A stamp of 10 baht for the document at the labor not available,

"Mai Mee" "Por Leo", okay I'll be back soon.

No problem, still time on my wp.

Back to the hospital, a blood check within 40 minutes receiving my document not having that disease ( Thought it would take one day to be sure?)

I could have Aids, Hepatitis from A-Z, Elephantiasis in my ears, TB, being hooked up on heroin, speed, coke, Lao Khao sizip and all other diseases, but I've passed!

Now I know why all Prathom one kids should have a tablet, even without having electricity, or internet....wai.gif

It's always a crap shoot with these people. And shortly we will have someone who comes along and only brought their passport and a letter from the school and got the WP.!

The best advise is to bring everything they might possibly need. Leave your logic, reasoning and brains at home, however!

Best of luck.

And stay calm, even when you'd like to kill them.....lol

yeah, the "health" test is new.

really wonderful to have a check for leprosy, syphilis, elephantisis, tuberculosis.

nothing against a decent health check, but this just seems to be a reason to "draw blood".

to be honest: this was the first time i taught about why i want to stay here, if such ridiculous tests are required.

My guess, and it is only a guess, is that somewhere along the line there has been a re-emergence of syphilis, probably among migrant labor from neighboring countries. Gov't regulations are usually set imposed in such a way that they cover everyone.

Syphilis is quite treatable, by the way, especially in the early stages.

The requirement is actually that you not have tertiary syphilis, so I guess that primary and secondary are ok!tongue.png

The three stages are:

Primary: chancres, sores, lesions, general unsightly nastiness.

Secondary: usually no symptoms, but the spirochetes will be burrowing into your brain & nerves.

Tertiary: brain damage, paralysis, insanity & death.
