I got myself a incredibly cute winter white. I am looking for a nice cage, quality bedding and food.

Been around some shops, but unfortunately all only have the cheap bird cage look alike, no soft bedding but only cheap wood shavings

What you should have done is set up the hamster’s home first, but never mind, it`s done now.

This is what you do.

Buy a medium size dog cage, the metal ones used for transporting dogs. See sample pics below. Cost average 450 baht.

Most do not have solid bottoms, only wire, so line the bottom with thick cardboard by cutting up some cardboard boxes.

Next, fit chicken wire tightly around the outside of the cage to stop the hamster escaping. Attach the chicken wire with ordinary metal wire they use for fencing. Make sure there are no protruding sharp pieces of wire. Either bend them in or cut with a pair of wire cutters.

These cages or quite high and if you’re adventurous, you can make another story in the cage for your hamster to climb and exercise.

Once the above is completed, then purchase some medium size blue plastic plumbing pipe. Attach some together to create a sort of maze that the hamster can run through and explore. Purchase a running wheel. Add a small piece of tree branch so that the hamster can climb and will chew (good for their teeth).

Bedding: Do not use wood shavings it is bad for them. Line the floor with shredded plain paper, not newspaper because the ink is full of toxins. Kitchen roll paper or toilet paper makes a safe perfect bedding.

The hamster cage should be cleaned once a week, because their urine and poo stinks. Purchase one of those small plastic box like hamster cages and just place the hamster in the small cage while cleaning the main cage.

Feeding: Plenty of information online regarding a hamsters diet most that can be purchased from many stores or markets. I am positive that I have seen hamster food for sale in Tesco Lotus and Big C.

In the wild, hamsters are usually solitary animals and only meet to mate. Very similar to my love life actually, when I have the money. It`s ram, bam thank you M'am and then the male goes off on his merry way. So hamsters are best keep solitary. Add two of more together and eventually they will fight to the death.
