There are those folks that stay away from Pai and those that enjoy it. My wife and I are in the later camp that enjoy it and are thinking of heading up for a few days. Like Jimmy Buffett's "One Particular Harbor", we have "One Particular Bar" which honors happy hour prices until we leave and they usually have a band playing music we like to listen to.

So.... Are there any events in the next few weeks? Any new places to stay or eat? Is the Witching Well still serving good food? Is the burger place and Noi's Kitchen still open? If you've been to Pai in the last few months, what would you recommend?

I can only vouch for the burger place still being there across from Li Lu hotel. We ate lunch there three days ago. Can't help you with the rest as we were on our way back to CNX. I understand the burger place is under new management.

Hi we just got back a couple of days ago so can't give any current info other than I heard the Wat Prabat rocket festival is June 4.

Always new ones but one of the oldest restaurants around is Baan Benjarong if you're into higher end Thai cuisine - I've never been disappointed there.

Lots of colorful tree blossoms on the road up along with all the other rainy season natural delights Pai has on offer. Looks like it's going to be a bumper mango crop too...

when is your last trip to pai? Not much changes, i am located in pai btw. Not really a fan of western food so I cant speak much about that, but the chinese cuisine at yunan village still remain lovely

Not a very good timing to visit pai now imo, if you think its hot now in chiang mai, it will be burning over here.

Got up to 31 at my place this afternoon. Don't know about CM but noticeably more comfortable climate than Phuket region where we have spent the last 3 months.

When I was there a month ago it was the opposite, considerably cooler in Pai than CM...

Isn't Pai at a higher altitude? Would stand to reason to be a little cooler than Chiang Mai.

But it can still be hot just not as hot as Chiang Mai on a regular basses.

not sure but thats how i find it. its always colder at night and hotter in the noon

could probably due to me staying in an apartment in chiangmai which is cooler than the house in pai since i usually just hang around in my place

Back after a nice time in Pai. Town was fairly busy with many younger tourists and the usual collection of interesting locals. Na's Kitchen was closed, Burger Barn's burgers are still top cabin, and the Witching Well was still the best place to eat in town. Good time to go as the rooms at Bann Suan (not to be confused with Bann Suan Rim Pai which is right next door) are discounted down to 300 baht from the high season 1200 baht. (Very clean room, large shower, AC, and friendly staff.) Food and drinks are substantially less expensive than in Chiang Mai which is surprising as Pai is directly on the tourist map. Traffic on the road was light but we did see two large 10 wheel cargo trucks that tipped over and went sliding down the road. Not surprising with those steep grades and curves.

Can anybody in or around Pai confirm the Rocket Festival on the 4th.June please.

Would also be interested in this.

Cheers

Hi I ran into a guy building some rockets and he confirmed that the Boonbangfai will be Monday June 4 at Wat Prabat. To get there proceed north out of Vieng Neua village for about 1 km then just before reaching Pura Vida guest house take a right up the hill on a small concrete road for about another km and someone will usually be directing traffic up to the wat. Usually gets under way by noon but it's very late this year so rain could be an issue. This is a small village-level festival but could be of interest to those looking for a novel way to die in Pai.

There's a woman selling barbecued chicken, pork, or fish with vegetables, right before the big motorbike rental shop. ( Coming from Baan Tawan, also a very good place to stay at the Pai river.)

You'll get a cheap and clean bungalow with AC, "Pat" the owner is a nice person. A woman started to sell ham and cheeseburgers together with tasty homemade Fries, on the same road before the temple.

Bepop, the disco was great on the weekend, two bands a foreign and a Thai band playing. Really good music.

Another place with two guys playing good music is opposite Baan Tawan. Baan Tawan is a nice place, free wireless and you'll get a good deal. ( near the high school)

Wouldn't worry about the heat, it's not as hot as in CM. There's a nice swimming pool with weight machines, Ping Pong and good music all day long just up the hill.

Guess it's very close to rainy season now. Please feel free to contact Pat. Here's a link:http://www.latestays.../?cid=SEM-7972-
