For the first time, I sent in my 90 reporting paperwork last Tuesday by EMS mail, including prepaid return envelope. Today being Saturday, still not receiving anything back, I was beginning to wonder what the usual turnaround time is and when I should start to worry. I would assume that with my copies and my Postal receipt, renewal in person could be accomplished without penalty, but it would be so much nicer if I didn't have to go there.

Anyone have any comment as to what the usual turnaround time is on this matter?

About 2 weeks.

You should send it in about 10 days to 2 weeks before due date (I was told 2 weeks by Imm).

Look at a calender, and try to take holidays and weekends into consideration.

Don't freak out, it will show up...

After 2 years of doing this, I've never missed a return mailing.

I tried making my last 90 day report by mail and never received anything back from them. I went to the office on the last day of the grace period and was told to make the report that day. About an hour for a number, then another hour and a half waiting for the 50 plus people in front of me doing 90 day reports.

I remember your earlier post on this, and am sorry it didn't work out for you.

Even if your paperwork was perfect...the Thai Post and where the mail is delivered is an issue.

I'm lucky- I live in a serviced apt bldg with very efficient staff. We have a mail slot for each apt resident, and in 6 years I've never had a mailing gone missing, whether from the US, magazines, packages, CM Imm letters, etc.

I always take a digital image of the TM 47 stub before I send it off. I also make sure "Chiang Mai Immigration" appears on the registered receipt. As elektrified said, no need for EMS; simple registered mail is fine.

As the saying goes, your mileage may vary.

I am preparing to do this (mail-in my 90 day report-in) for the first time. Are these instructions still valid?

1. Copy of all passport pages (up to the latest arrival stamp in the Kingdom or latest visa stamp)

2. Copy of arrival/departure card TM.6 (front and back)

3. Previous notifications of staying over 90 days (if any)

4. Completely filled in and signed notification form TM.47

5. Envelope with 5 Baht stamp affixed and return address of foreigner for the officer in charge to send back the lower part of form TM. 47 after having received the notification. This part must be kept for reference and for future notifications of staying over 90 days.

6. The above mentioned documents must be sent by registered mail and the receipt of the registration kept by the foreigner.

Send the mail before the renewal date 7 days to

If it is going to cause that munch worry you might want to reconsider not going in person. That way you only have a short peoiod of time to not like.

I go in because it generally is not that busy. (up to the last two times) and the wife comes with me and we go see a movie or do some shopping afterwards. I do take a book but generally manage to strike up a conversation with some one.

That is part of the Joy of retirement for me not having dead lines to meet on a continuous base.

In short, no.

If you live in Chiang Mai, resident in Chiang Mai, and have done previous visa extensions and 90 day reports in Chiang Mai...most of this info is incorrect. Except for the registered mail with receipt, SASE with 5 B postage, etc.

First, the info sheet for CM, that is specific to residents here who want to do 90 day reporting by mail (courtesy of CM Imm):

post-23786-0-58526000-1336836963_thumb.j

Second, a few short comments.

If you previously lived elsewhere in Thailand, say Jomtien, MHS, etc. forget about doing this. CM Imm doesn't accept 90 day reporting by mail from folks who have extensions issued elsewhere. Go in to the CM Imm office for your 90 day address reporting. Essentially you are changing your address for Imm purposes; the mail option is a no go.

Make sure all your copies (face page, current extension/visa, last entry stamp, departure card) are crystal clear. As in they can read the dates clearly. If not clear, it will be kicked back.

Be certain to fill out and sign the TM 47 application completely. If you don't dot an i or cross a t, they will just not process (ie nothing will be sent back).

Other Imm offices do things differently. The info above is what CM Imm requires.

Indeed. I know the mail was delivered to Immigration because of tracking. I understand it's possible that it was lost coming back. I doubt that.

Unfortunately I have had a couple things gone wrong in Thai Post in the past.... the distant past. At this time Thai Post is the post avenue for me to receive things.

I may try mailing a 90 day report again, although I will certainly go anc check with them much sooner than the last day of the grace period if I don't get something back in time. Other than if there are too many people waiting in line for 90 day reports, going to Immigration for the report is not a problem for me.

Came back in three days, about a week before Songkran - sent off on the afternoon first day (Wed), back on the morning of the third day (Sat), or it could even have been Friday, can't remember. EMS both ways; I mean who cares about 60-70 baht for a little bit of peace of mind.
